City News: Your Weekly Update
Week of May 2, 2016

Nighttime Closures of Rainbow Bridge This Week
Work on the Rainbow Bridge will require overnight closures from Monday, May 2 to Friday, May 6between Scott Street and Folsom Auburn Road.  The Rainbow Bridge closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to take Lake Natoma Crossing to Natoma Street to Riley Street as an alternate route.  The City of Folsom does not anticipate the closures will create significant traffic delays.  Detours will be clearly marked.  Message signs will alert motorists in advance of the closure before work begins. The closures are necessary to perform work on the Rainbow Bridge Maintenance Project.  The rehabilitation project will extend the lifespan of the historic bridge and provide a smoother and safer drive for motorists. Stay informed about closures and detours at www.folsom.ca.us.  For more information about the project, contact Brian Reed at [email protected] or call 916-355-8322.

Big Day of Giving Tomorrow

In its third year, the Big Day of Giving has raised nearly $9 million for nonprofits serving our region. This year, multiple organizations serving the Folsom community are participating. Join our community on May 3 for a celebration of philanthropy and put your money where your heart is!  Learn more at https://bigdayofgiving.org.
Healthy Household Habits for Clean Storm Water
Many Folsom residents begin home improvement projects this time of year. Keep the waterways clean by following these tips:
  • Sweep sidewalks and patios rather than hosing them down.
  • Never rinse paint brushes or cans in the street. Rinse brushes in the sink. Water-based paint cans should be dried out then put in the garbage bin.
  • Use River-Friendly Pest Control methods that minimize use of toxic pesticides.
  • Avoid buying oil-based paints whenever possible. Dispose of unused/unwanted oil-based paint at the household hazardous waste facility.
  • Ensure that contractors you hire are not washing or discharging pollutants to the storm drain.
  • Only discharge swimming pool water into the storm drain if it is free of chemicals and toxins. Rinse pool filters on the lawn, not in the street gutter.

It's a violation of Folsom City Code to discharge pollutants into the storm drain or local waterway. Learn more about stormwater pollution prevention at http://creeks.folsom.ca.us.
