President's Message
Dear Coaches,
I hope you are all doing well.
It's been a busy month. Here's what's been happening:
In April, we had our first New Member Meet-Up. Twenty-three coaches attended. It was a pleasure getting to know these new members, their coaching niches, and how the Chapter membership will contribute to their coaching journey; made for great conversation. Thanks to Board Director,
Yana Blackwelder, PCC for recommending
Vela Wine Bar, a perfect venue - great food and wonderful atmosphere.
Many thanks to
Marion Franklin, MCC, who addressed the April meeting on
Masterful Coaching Secrets That No One Tells You. We all learned about the importance of "what". Couldn't make it to the event? Not a problem! We have it on video. This presentation is packed with wonderful coaching tips and is available for viewing. To learn more,
GO HERE. If you are a member of our site, please login with your Member username and password and use code MEMBERS at checkout.
Going forward, viewing past in-person programs will be easy. We are starting to use video as a way for members to be part of the learning, even when you are unable to attend a meeting. To see what's available,
GO HERE. Our Coach VA,
Khia Banks helped us create this with Board Directors,
Susan Ginsberg-O'Sullivan and
Joy Passey. For more info on how to access recorded events, email Khia Banks at
[email protected].
ICF membership renewal for April 2016 through March 2017 ended on April 30. Coaches who have not renewed will be dropped from the membership list. Don't let that happen to you!
Renew here.
There's a lot going on in May. Programs include, three webinars and the May 10th presentation with The Hogan CEO, Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic speaking on
The Art of Talent: Personality and Psychology, followed by our 3rd annual Coach Salon. This popular event is close to being sold out.
Learn more here. And, thanks to Yana Blackwelder, PCC for arranging our speaker for us.
NYCHA coaching begins soon. For more info on the program and how to participate, email
[email protected]. Thanks to Board Director
Joy Passey for organizing this event with NYCHA.
All of the programs and events that the NYC Chapter offers happens with the help of
Wendy Mantel, PCC who keeps our meetings on track,
Robin Schletter, who enlists sponsors,
Susan Ginsberg-O'Sullvan who arranges our programming,
Carolyn Carlson who keeps us within budget,
Joy Passey who organizes the volunteer programs, and
Dr. John Hoover, ACC , who contributes his expertise and time to hosting events. It's a great team!
We have much to be thankful for - your support, participation and contributions to the coaching profession and our ICF NYC Chapter make it a great place to belong!
Have a great month, and hope to see you on May 10th!
Margaret

The Art of Talent: Personality and the Psychology of Human Potential
With Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic
Hosted by ICF-NYC
May 10 - 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
CCEUs: 1.5 (.75 Core Competencies; .75 Resource Development)
Twenty years have passed since McKinsey introduced the notion of a war for talent, but how effective are organizations at identifying and
retaining talented
employees? This talk will highlight the big gap between what organizations do and should do to win the talent
war.
It will also explain how talent should be defined and measured, and why personality is key to
understanding
and developing human potential at work. In addition, recent innovations in assessment tools will be examined and discussed to understand what the future of talent may bring.
Coach Salon is patterned after the inspiring gatherings of the late 17th century French literary and philosophical movements, where small group of like-minded people gathered to share and learn with and from each other. Modern day Salons serve to advance the wisdom and connection among individuals who are committed to deepening their consciousness and contribution to the world-in this case, our community of NYC area coaches.
The Salon follows the event and ends at 8:30 p.m.
Please join us to continue the afternoon's conversation with a selection of beverages and delicious hors d'oeuvres for you to enjoy on a fabulous open air terrace overlooking Rockefeller Center.
There will be a drawing for fun prizes. We hope to see you there!

Webinar: How to Create Programs That Sell Like Hotcakes
With Krista Martin, CPCC
Hosted by ICF-Virginia
May 17 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
You need three things to grow your business: you need to know who your ideal clients are, where they hang out and you must have an irresistible offer. Too often I see entrepreneurs fail to work with their ideal clients because they haven't put together the right offer. In
this interactive presentation, you'll learn how to package, name & price your services so that you can raise your rates and the two most common mistakes that solopreneurs make when putting together their programs that costs them $1,000 (and what to do instead).

Webinar: The ICF Coach Engaging With Addiction Recovery
With Ruth Riddick and Amy Bloustin
Hosted by ICF-NYC
May 24 - 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Addiction Recovery management is increasingly being understood as a client priority in successful daily living. This prioritization may present challenges for support professionals, such as coaches, who are not themselves in recovery and, consequently, may not know how to work with addiction. These challenges do not preclude engagement with the client in recovery.

Benefits of Coaching in the Community Outreach Program
The Chapter has partnered with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and Small Business Services (SBS) by coaching food entrepreneurs in their Food Pathway Program. One participant,
The Harlem Pie Man, demonstrated his products at a local Whole Foods store at 97th Street and Columbus Avenue. They sold all of their pies and more are on the way! ICF-NYC Board Member, Joy Passey, is their business coach.
Congratulations to
The Harlem Pie Man
on their great success! To get involved send email us at

April 28, 2016
One of the most important, leadership skills to develop in managers is the ability to coach effectively-including how to connect with employees and get the best out of them on an ongoing basis. From my own experience, here are three employee performance management best practices I've found effective in turning frontline managers into first-rate coaches.
