Summer is coming fast, so get ready for golfing season and take this opportunity to visit with fellow SUMA members! The City of Weyburn is proud to be hosting the 28th Annual SUMA Golf Tournament on July 14-15, at the Weyburn Golf Course. Registration is open until Friday, June 10 . Convention 2017:
Submit a Theme Idea for a Chance to Win!

Multi-Material Recycling Program

Now that the first quarter of 2016 is behind us and the first round of funding from the Multi-Material Recycling Program (MMRP) will start flowing to municipalities who have already signed up. If your municipality was signed up, ensure all documents required by Multi-Material Stewardship Western (MMSW) are submitted to them.

If you aren't among the 459 local governments already signed up to benefit from the MMRP, it's never too late to complete a  services agreement  with the MMSW.  The MMSW website has  several recorded webinars  that may be of interest, including how to submit collection reports

Federal Infrastructure Program Update

In late April, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, sent a letter to the provincial government on the next steps for federal infrastructure programs. Last week, SUMA met with officials from the Ministry of Government Relations to receive an update. 

Details on what we learned about what is coming for the New Building Canada Fund, the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, and the Clean Water Wastewater Fund are available on our website. We do not yet have details on when you can apply for the new funding programs, but watch our website news page and Urban Update for details as they become available. 
 
FCM First Nations-Municipal Community Economic Development Initiative

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is recruiting new communities to participate in the second phase of their First Nations-Municipal Community Economic Development Initiative (CEDI). The initiative seeks to empower First Nations and municipalities to become effective partners in fostering strong and mutually beneficial local economies. 

Details on the program are available on the FCM website, along with the application for municipalities.

Celebrating Seniors 2016 Provincial Volunteer Awards

Initiated by the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM) to honour the many outstanding senior (age 55+) volunteers in Saskatchewan who remain active and continue to consistently contribute to the overall quality of life in their communities. Individuals or a group can be nominated in 13 award categories. These categories are outlined in the Nomination Package, available on their website. You can also contact SSM at 306-359-9956 to request the Nomination Package and Nomination Form . Nominations are being accepted until June 1, 2016.

The Celebrating Seniors gala event takes place Sunday, September 25 at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. Take the time to honor a senior volunteer in your community!
