SB 1246 Update
After two months of strong grassroots outreach to the Legislature and coordination with our lobbyists at KP, MVCAC was successful in not only stopping SB 1246 from moving, but also in making a strong argument to the Legislature to maintain members' ability to do aerial applications without a formal notice. SB 1246, which would have required mosquito abatement districts to provide a 7-day notice to politicians, chambers of commerce, and other groups, was set to be heard in the Senate Environmental Quality Committee on the morning of April 20. MVCAC lobbyists were notified during the hearing that Senator Nguyen, the bill's author, decided to pull the bill from the committee agenda. This was the deadline to have bills heard prior to a deadline, so this issue is effectively dead now. MVCAC members did a great job communicating the harm this bill would cause and further aligned ourselves with physicians in the public health community. KP will keep members posted on any subsequent conversations.

Vector Control Permit, Water Quality Order 2016-0039-DWQ
Note: Any technical questions about the message below should be directed to Gary Goodman: gwgoodman@fightthebite.net

This is a message from the State Water Resources Control Board:

Hello,

The State Water Resources Control Board reissued the Vector Control Permit in Water Quality Order 2016-0039-DWQ on March 1, 2016.  Here is the link to Order 2016-0039-DWQ  Order 2016-0039-DWQ will become effective on July 1, 2016. Meantime, the Vector Control Permit under Order 2011-0002-DWQ remains in effect until July 1, 2016.

To get continued coverage under Water Quality Order 2016-0039-DWQ on July 1, 2016, vector control districts must submit their applications and Pesticide Application Plans (PAPs) by April 29, 2016. Please use the attached Notice of Intent (NOI) form when submitting an application. Vector control districts which are currently enrolled under Order 2011-0002-DWQ need not submit a new PAP if there will be no changes in application methods or pesticides which will be applied. However, vector control districts must state that this is the case in Section VI, Pesticide Application Plan, of the NOI form. Vector control districts which have already submitted their NOIs using the form from Order 2011-0002-DWQ must resubmit their NOIs using the attached form. Please submit NOIs and PAPs to the following address:

New Members-Only Area on MVCAC.org
Dear MVCAC Member,

We have been working behind-the-scenes to try and remedy some issues with our current MVCAC website and the members-only content areas.  Although, the site will be getting an upgraded look and feel in the coming months, we wanted to make sure that members-only content was both easy for members to access and secure.

If you visit MVCAC.org and hover over the new login tab, you will see two login option s:
  1. MVCAC Website Login
  2. Member Services Portal

The MVCAC Website Login will require you to set up a user ID to access for the first time and will grant you access to all public and member-only content in one place.
To create a login for this area:
  1. Go to mvcac.org
  2. Click the login tab on the homepage menu bar.  This will bring you to the site login page: http://www.mvcac.org/site-login/
  3.  Scroll down to the "New User Registration" section of the page and fill out the requested information
  4. Once you have registered, MVCAC staff will need to verify your membership before granting access.  Please allow 1-2 business days for staff to process your request.
  5. Once your request is approved, the email you provided will be sent a temporary password allowing you to login.
  6. Copy and paste the password provided in that email into the MVCAC Website Login screen with the username you chose.

The Member Services Portal is the login area you are used to, this will continue to be used to register for events and pay dues online.  This will no longer be the area to access members-only content.

Of course, if you have any questions about the new login process feel free to contact MVCAC staff and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,
The MVCAC Staff
