Rapping about the Milestones

Though not absolutely sure last year's "pep rally" is responsible for the great performances of CHS students on state Milestones and other end-of-year tests, but why take a chance? CHS faculty members held two pep rally sessions Friday to motivate students for another strong showing this year.  At left are Language Arts teachers Katie Holley and Nichole Chetti performing a rap about the importance of testing. Center is incoming Principal David Brooks giving the students a pep talk to boost confidence and self expectations. At right, students watch a short video of iconic motivational snippets from movies and other media. Milestones, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement testing will continue through the end of the school year.

SAT Word
of the Week

candor
(kan-der)

As used on the SAT, its meaning is: sincerity; openness.

Here it is used in a sentence:  Because the author writes with such candor about his experiences, his readers will feel as if they are actually a part of his life.

Ambassadors Cup

Carrollton High School's team finished its inaugural year as champions, winning the Student Ambassador Cup presented by the Georgia Secretary of State Student Ambassadors program.

The primary purpose of program, launched this year, is to promote voter registration and student involvement in the political process. The CHS team earned more than 48,000 points in the last weeks of the competition, hosting four voter registration drives, speaking to several classes at school about the importance of active citizenship and spending time giving back to the community. In addition, the SOS Student Ambassadors Facebook page featured a video about the upcoming presidential race and voter registration produced by CHS team member Leigh Anne Turner. Other team members are Anthony Zheng, Holley Dalton, Thomas Culwell, Max Schoenfeld, Hannah Brooks, Tim Green, Kirby Criswell and Jill Fazio.

Following Carrollton's first place finish was Fannin County High School at second with 36,296 points and The King's Academy earned third place with 12,085 points.
SISTERS scholarships

Carrollton High School seniors Jaslyn Dortch and Alexis Hendrix were awarded the SISTERS Club "Lori's Dream" scholarship award, honoring Lori Pepper who knew the value of a good education and was dedicated to helping students achieve their academic  goals.
