SHAKESPEARE FOR ACTORS

A class for the actor seeking proficiency in delivering clear and compelling Shakespearean dialogue onstage. Through exploration of Shakespeare's compositional elements, cultural context and acting techniques, students will develop a practical approach to effectively conveying the meaning and emotional content of the Bard's language to a modern audience.  A general familiarity with Shakespeare's canon is preferable, but not necessary. Comfortable clothing is recommended, as is materials for taking notes. Participation is essential.

Class times:  Monday Evenings, 6 - 8 pm, 8 Classes over 10 Weeks - 5/16, 5/23, No Class on MEMORIAL DAY (5/30), 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, No Class on 4th of JULY (7/4), 7/11, Final Class 7/18

Class Location:  CLARA - (The E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts), Studio 113

Tuition:  $260.  $100 deposit required to reserve your spot, balance due first day of class.



Matt K. Miller:
Having been an acting coach and teacher for many years, Matt's credentials include adjunct professor of Theatre Arts for the Los Rios Community College District; an instructor for the Arts Guild of the Rio Valley Charter School and past camp director for the Capital Stage and Sacramento Theatre Company's theatre programs. He has also been a Master Teacher for the Sacramento Theatre Company's Young Professionals Conservatory. In addition, Matt offers one-on- one coaching for actors of all levels. He has been the Artistic Director of the Sacramento Theatre Company and an Artistic Coordinator of the Classical Theatre Lab in Los Angeles, where he worked and studied with such artists as Patrick Stewart, Alfred Molina, Alan Rickman, Richard Dreyfuss, Olympia Dukakis, Brain Cox among many others. He has studied Shakespeare with the renowned Patrick Tucker of the Royal Shakespeare Company and Barbara Gaines of Chicago Shakespeare Company.

Dena Martinez:
Dena Martinez has over 30 years of national professional acting experience to her credits. She has toured nationally, with The San Francisco MimeTroupe, Culture Clash, and with the acclaimed El Teatro Campesino, where she was a company artist. Her theater credits include: leading roles at California Shakespeare Theater,Denver Center Theater Company, Marin Theater Company, Berkeley Rep., Word for Word, Campo Santo, San Jose Rep., San Jose Stage, B Street, Capital Stage, Magic Theater, Theaterworks, Pacific Rep and Shotgun Players. She has workshopped and created many roles for national playwrights including Karen Zacharias, Beth Henley, Octavio Solis, Marcus Gardley, Caridad Svich, and Josefina Lopez. She has starred in two childrens television series for PBS. Emmy award winning  You Can Choose and  Short Stories and Tall Tales . And her voice over work includes Pixar and Coppola/Zoetrope Productions. Dena is also a popular casting director, director, instructor. She also coaches in the Tribal Belly Dance world. She has taught at SF Mecca Immersion and Tribal Fest where she brings theater to professional belly dancers who perform in major rock and roll, tribal, electronica and circus shows and concerts internationally.
