18th & 19th DISTRICT CPD ALERTS -
Spring Safety Cautions
Dear Neighbor, 

The 18th and 19th District Chicago Police have issued the following community alerts in response to recent criminal activity in the ward, and have provided common-sense cautions and advice to keep our homes safe.  The police are also asking our help in identifying potential offenders.
CTA Robberies

The 18th District Chicago Police have  issued an alert  to notify residents of two reported robberies on the CTA Red Line in April, in the early morning hours. A n unknown offender approached lone victims on a  CTA train  and robbed them. The suspect was described as a black male, aged 30-40 years, approximately 6'02" and 190-200 pounds, wearing a light colored sweatshirt and dark jeans. Details of these incidents are:
  • 900 Block of W. Fullerton on April 12, 2016 in the early morning hours
  • 1600 Block of N. Clybourn on April 21, 2016 in the early morning hours

What you can do:
  • Be aware of your surroundings. 
  • Travel with others when possible. Avoid being alone on a train. 
  • Report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.
18th District Residential Burglaries Alert

The 18th District Chicago Police have  issued an alert  notifying residents of several unsolved residential burglaries in the 43rd Ward. These robberies may or may not be related. The offender(s)  entered homes using a variety of methods and stole property. There are currently no suspects.  The dates, times and locations of these incidents are:
  • 2100 Block of N. Sheffield on April 4, 2016 in the morning hours
  • 700 Block of W. Webster on April 10, 2016 in the early morning hours
  • 1900 Block of N. Sheffield on April 16, 2016 in the evening hours
  • 900 Block of W. Webster on April 18, 2016 in the evening hours
  • 1800 Block of N. Sedgwick on April 20, 2016 in the afternoon hours
  • 2000 Block of N. Magnolia on April 21, 2016 in the early morning hours
  • 2000 Block of N. Seminary on April 22, 2016 in the afternoon hours

Some of these burglaries involved open doors or ineffective locks. What you can do:
  • Remember to lock your house, garage and car doors, and close accessible windows when you are not home.
  • Install an effective deadbolt on your garage door or your back porch.  
  • These simple measures can cut the burglary rate in half, according to police.
  • Report suspicious behavior - always call 911 if you feel uncomfortable.
  • Do not let door-to-door "salesmen" or "utility workers" get access to your house or yard without proper ID. Call 911.

19th District Alleyway Fires

A series of alley fires have been reported in the 19th district in one night. Materials inside garbage cans were ignited and, in some cases, the fire spread to garages. Below are the dates, times, and locations where the incidents occurred. 
  • 2800 Block of N. Cambridge Av on Apr 25 th at 04:28am
  • 1100 Block of W. Oakdale Av on Apr 25 th at 05:04am
  • 2900 Block of N. Seminary Av on Apr 25 th at 05:09am
  • 700 Block of W. Oakdale Av on Apr 25 th at 05:16am
  • 1100 Block of W. Wolfram St on Apr 25 th at 05:24am
  • 2700 Block of N. Racine Av on Apr 25 th at 05:28am

While only one of these fires occurred in our ward, in light of this pattern, it is important that our residents be aware.

What you can do:
  • Be aware of this situation and alert your neighbors.
  • Secure your city garbage cans and leave bulky items out on pick up days
    only.
  • Call 911 to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity in the area.
  • Call 911 and provide a description of the person or vehicle involved.
  • If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for
    investigating detectives.
  • Keep the perimeter of your property well lit.
