Renters are more worried about housing costs than homeowners

A recent Gallup survey has found that American renters are almost twice as likely to worry about not being able to pay their housing costs as homeowners. Overall 33 percent of Americans are very or moderately worried about paying their rent, mortgage or other housing costs.READ MORE 
Gallup poll finds most Americans believe real estate is the best investment

In 2016, 35% of Americans chose real estate as the best investment choice, compared to 19% in 2011, according to the survey. Real estate beat out other top investment choices such as stocks and mutual funds with 22%, gold with 17%, savings accounts and CDs with 15% and bonds with 7%. READ MORE

Fort Lee OKs school budget with tax increase

The school board on Monday unanimously approved a 2016-17 budget that includes a $58.3 million tax levy, which will increase taxes by $147 for the owner of a home assessed at the district average of $457,221. The majority of that increase is caused by debt service that has ballooned to $4.5 million this year, up $1.7 million from last year. READ MORE

Flood Insurance Legislation Promises Flexibility for Consumers 

Property owners who opt to purchase flood insurance in the private market rather than through the National Flood Insurance Program may do so under current rules, but they risk paying higher rates if they return to the NFIP. H.R. 2901, the "Flood Insurance Market Parity and Modernization Act," passed the U.S. House of Representatives today by a vote of 419-0 and seeks to alleviate that concern. READ MORE

N.J. lawmakers call on Christie to sign Port Authority reform bill

 Lawmakers from New York and New Jersey called on Governor Christie Wednesday to sign a bill that would give both legislatures greater oversight of the Port Authority. The bill would require officials with the bi-state agency to appear before the state legislatures in New York and New Jersey up to twice a year.
