School Travel in York Region
|
Last month, Metrolinx released findings from a study conducted by Professor Ron Buliung of University of Toronto Mississauga, which outlined students' school travel patterns within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas from 1986 to 2011.
Some statistics from York Region's report include:
- Of all regions within the GTHA, York Region had the highest percentage of daily auto trips among 14-17 year olds in 2011 at 38%
- Active school travel, such as walking and cycling, is the lowest mode share for York Region, but has experienced the least notable decline over time compared to all other regions in the GTHA

Reducing stress during your commute
|
Commuting is an inevitable part of our days, but dealing with stress doesn't have to be! Rashpal Sahota, founder of RKS Health, hosted a Stress Management workshop in which she provided helpful relaxation and exercise tips while seated during your commute, whether it is on a bus, train or in a carpool!
|
Smart Commute MRH would like to welcome Calvin Cheung to the team as our new Program Coordinator!
Calvin studied urban planning at the University of Waterloo, and has a strong interest in urban design. During a co-op work placement at the City of Markham, he played an instrumental part in implementing bike racks at various locations along Steeles Avenue.
Calvin is pleased to see dedicated bike and rapid transit lanes along Highway 7, and is looking forward to working on projects that will increase cycling and transit ridership on this corridor!
