Snake Alley Criterium

Downtown Partners and Bike Burlington invite you to kick off the summer with the 34th Annual Snake Alley Criterium on Memorial Day weekend. The excitement begins on Friday afternoon, May 27, with the Burlington Road Race. This year's event covers 95 miles from the Port of Burlington to Grandview and back, ending on Main Street for the sprint to the finish line. Afterwards, join in the fun with live music and refreshments during Friday Fest at the Port.

Criterium Day, Saturday, May 28, begins with delicious food at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Port. The Criterium races begin at 8:30 AM downtown, with the final Category 1/2/Pro race at 4 PM. Hundreds of athletes from around the country will be competing for thousands of dollars in prizes. The popular kids' races and the Cobble Climb take place at noon. Spend your day cheering on the racers as they make their way up the grueling 12.5 percent grade of Snake Alley, with spectators literally in the middle of the action. Be sure to visit our downtown shops and restaurants and check out the food vendors, too.

The 2016 Snake Alley Criterium is made possible by Great River Health Systems, Two Rivers Bank & Trust, CPA Associates PC, Northwestern Mutual, Refreshment Services Pepsi, Mobil 1 Lube Express Burlington Prolube, and the Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Congratulations to Main Street Iowa Award Winners

Two key supporters of downtown revitalization and Downtown Partners were honored at the 30th annual Main Street Iowa awards in Des Moines on April 29. Becky Anderson was recognized for her inspirational role in improving Burlington's downtown with the Leadership Award. For her efforts in business and property development, Cynthia Schuyler received the statewide Entrepreneurship Award for cities over 10,000 in population. Congratulations to both of them for their well-deserved honors; we are fortunate to have leaders of their caliber in our community.
Downtown Open 4 Business Competition

With Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Downtown Partners presents the Open 4 Business competition for either a new or expanding for-profit business locating in the Main Street district. Each of the state's 52 Main Street organizations can submit one business concept. Three local applicants will pitch their business concepts to Downtown Partners, with the winner receiving a rental assistance grant if they open in downtown Burlington. In addition, they will go on to one of five regional competitions in June for a chance at $8000. The five finalists will present their ideas in a statewide contest in August for an additional $20,000 in funding.
