Summer is just around the corner and that means you might be
thinking about summer vacation plans.
We now have a new travel option available in Wichita. Amtrak and Village Tours of Wichita recently announced a new Amtrak Thruway Bus Connection that will enable Amtrak passengers to make nightly connections via Wichita between Amtrak Trains 3 and 4, the Southwest Chief at Newton, and Amtrak Trains 821 and 822, the Heartland Flyer at Oklahoma City.
The last time Wichita had passenger rail service was on the Lone Star train, a Houston-Chicago route discontinued in 1979.
Now, passengers from Wichita will be able to board a bus at the downtown Greyhound station and connect to Amtrak's Southwest Chief at Newton. That train runs from Los Angeles to Chicago with stops including Albuquerque, Dodge City, Garden City, Topeka and Kansas City.
The southbound bus route connects to the Heartland Flyer at Oklahoma City. That opens up access to the Texas Eagle, the southern Los Angeles-Chicago train, with stops in destinations such as Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and Tucson; or in the other direction, Little Rock and St. Louis.
More information can be found here.
If your summer plans don't include travel, there are many great events going on in the City this summer to keep you entertained.
The Wichita River Festival kicks off summer June 3-11. This is our opportunity to shine as a community and it offers activities for the young and old. You can take advantage now of an early-bird special on this year's button. Through May 5, you can purchase an adult button for only $7. The price goes up to $10 on May 6. For more details and to take advantage of the early-bird special,

Wichita Park and Recreation has lots of activities planned all summer long. From summer camps and sports offerings for the kids, to golf tournaments and sports leagues for kids and adults. The new Activities Guide will be available online beginning Monday, May 9. Visit their
website for more details.
Let's not forget about the many fun events that are taking place in downtown Wichita. The Old Town Farmer's Market opens May 7, from 7am to noon, at 1st and Mosely. The market is a vital part of the community and the Old Town experience. Support local farms, ranches, dairies and nurseries and have a delightful time while you are doing it in our beautiful site in Old Town Wichita!
Have a good weekend!

Free Medicine
Many Americans are not aware that there is free medicine available which can decrease the risk of dying by 19-30%.
This medicine helps prevent Alzheimer's dementia, lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of osteoporosis, and decreases colon and breast cancer risk. This medicine can be obtained through a doctor's prescription, but is also available "over the counter." What is this wonderful medicine?
WALKING!
If a drug company could sell it, they'd probably name it "Walkitor" and charge an arm and a leg! However it is FREE. Just 30 minutes of exercise daily can bring you these benefits. Even 15 minutes daily is beneficial to you. Walking is an easy way to get exercise in your routine.
Give it a try! You won't find a cheaper medicine on the market!
