Accommodation Ideas for Employees who are Pregnant 
Women today are more likely to work while pregnant. Data collected by the Pew Research Center indicates that not only are a higher share of women who are pregnant continuing to work, but also are working longer into their pregnancies and returning to work much sooner after (Pew Research Center, 2015). While pregnancy can be a joyous and exciting time, it can also present challenges at work for some women who experience limitations or complications associated with pregnancy. As a result, women who continue working during pregnancy may require job accommodations during and after pregnancy.   Read more.
Robbery and Violence Prevention in Small Retail Businesses
Police departments work with small businesses to seek methodologies to thwart crimes. In Oxnard, California, it was found that the most effective strategies to mitigate robberies and the resulting violence might be surprising because they are low in cost; easy to implement and sustain; do not require any special technological know-how to use; and, for the most part, are also good for the business. After arriving at this conclusion, the Oxnard Police Department joined forces with the occupational safety research community to find the answers.

NIOSH Ladder Safety Mobile App
The Ladder Safety app, NIOSH's first mobile application, is designed to improve extension and step ladder safety-a concern for those working in construction or any other task that requires ladder use.

The app provides user-friendly guides and interactive tools to prevent major causes of falls:
  • Angle Measuring Tool-Uses visual, sound, and vibration signals to make it easier for users to set an extension ladder at the proper angle (approximately 75 degrees) and to check the verticality of extension and step ladders.
  • Selection Tool-Provides a procedure to select the minimum required ladder duty rating corresponding to user characteristics and task.
  • Inspection Tool-Includes a comprehensive checklist for ladder mechanical inspection.
  • Proper Use Tool-Presents a set of rules for safe ladder use in a user-friendly format.
  • Accessories Tool- Describes a number of available extension ladder safety accessories.
Using smart phone technology, the NIOSH Ladder Safety app deli vers ladder safety tools, information, reference materials, and training resources into the hands of individual ladder users wherever and whenever they are needed.  The app is available in English and Spanish as a free download for Apple iPhone/iPad and Google Android devices .
