VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WITH B-SAFE PROGRAM
|
|
The Outreach Committee is currently exploring volunteer opportunities this summer with the B-SAFE Program. B-SAFE is a academic and enrichment program supported by the diocese aimed at underserved youth in six Boston-area neighborhoods. You can learn more about the program at:
Churches throughout the diocese volunteer to prepare and serve lunch for students in the program. This typically also involves some chances to talk with and read to youth in the program. We are considering doing this for one or more days during the week of August 1. This would require some individuals to prepare lunch in the evening or morning and others to go to a school site in Mattapan from 12:15-2 PM. These activities definitely would be appropriate for high school students.
At this point, we need to determine whether there is sufficient interest in St. Paul's to organize this opportunity. Please let Don Elmore ([email protected]) know if you would be interested in volunteering to help with the program for one or more of the days (Mon. 8/1, Tues. 8/2 and Wed. 8/3).

SAVE THE DATE - OUTREACH EVENT IN JUNE!
|
|
Save the Date--Service Activity at the Boston Nature Center
The Outreach Committee will be coordinating a service event on Saturday, June 11 from 9:00 a.m. - noon at the Boston Nature Center.
The Boston Nature Center is a community-based urban sanctuary in Mattapan run by Mass Audubon. We will be involved in activities related to the improvement and maintenance of their facilities. While the exact tasks will be decided closer to our event date, they will be appropriate to incorporate a broad range of parishioners, from young children through more senior members.
More details will be distributed closer to the event, but for now you can save the date for a fun opportunity to serve the community together.

DIOCESAN BUDGET HEARINGS

|
Have questions or input to give about the diocesan budget?
The 2017 diocesan budgeting process is underway, and the Budget Committee invites participation from the diocesan community. An open hearing on all aspects of the budget will be offered, on Tuesday, June 7, 7-9 p.m., at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (138 Tremont Street) in Boston.
Additionally, there will be two hearings focusing on the strategic ministries that currently receive funding through the diocesan budget. Representatives from those ministries will present their requests at hearings on Tuesday, May 10 and Wednesday, May 18, both from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul.
All are invited and welcome to attend any of the hearings.

EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY GROUP OPPORTUNITY
|
|
Interested in Joining Grace Norwood's Education for Ministry (EfM) Group in the Fall?
Every baptized person is called to ministry. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." The Education for Ministry (EfM) program gives you the background to carry out that covenant, and offers you an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.
The seminar group is the nucleus of the Education for Ministry program. A group of six to twelve participants and a trained mentor meet weekly over the course of a nine-month academic year. These meetings are usually from two and a half to three hours in length.
