MAY 2016
President's Message

Dear Coaches,

We will celebrate 15 years as the New York City Chapter of the International Coach Federation on November 16, 2016!  How wonderful!  As I reflect on this milestone, my realization is how honored and fortunate I am to be a part of our inspired and highly regarded professional coach community.

Our Chapter is more than a professional community. We are an engaged, educated, and brilliant group of talented, smart, savvy business people who are committed to continuous learning and making a difference in the professional and personal lives of so many.  You are the difference we make!

Speaking of community, the ICF Communities of Practice (CP) offer an additional venue for coaches in similar fields to communicate best practices and new ideas. ICF hosts 11 CPs; they generally meet virtually once a month. The groups are listed here.  ICF members can join by contacting a CP leader directly.   If you would like to start a CP within the NYC Chapter, contact me at: [email protected].  I look forward to hearing from you!

We celebrated International Coaching Week with a stirring presentation by Dr. Tomas Chamaro-Premuzic. We greatly appreciate his generosity of time, inspiration, and humor.  And, the books he donated as raffle prizes!  Thanks to the more than 120 coaches who attended and to those who made the event possible.  Following the presentation was our 3rd Annual Coach Salon - an evening filled with conversation, community and celebration!  Special thanks goes to: Susan Ginsberg-O'Sullivan, Director Professional Development; Robin Schletter, Director Strategy; Yana Blackwelder, Director Strategic Partnerships; Dr. John Hoover, Director; Wendy Mantel, Secretary; Carolyn K. Carlson, Treasurer; Joy Passey, Director Marketing and Communications; and Amy Bloustine, Chapter member.

June Events
:  Join us on June 15 when Dr. Pat Raskin speaks on the topic When the Pond Gets Murky: How Psychological Needs May Interfere With the Coaching Process. Dr. Pat was my professor at Columbia University Executive Coaching program.  She delivers her message with humor, strait talk, and the deepest understanding of the boundries. One of my favorite people - Dr. Pat's presentation is one not to be missed!  And, on June 6 , ICF Philly is hosting a teleclass , Using a Coach Approach With the Dying and Grieving .  Registration is open for both events.

Our NYCHA partnership is off to a great start as well as the partnership with ICF Foundation and Walk Through Walls. A huge thank you to all of volunteers who are helping to make this happen! You can learn more about our community outreach programs here

And, join me in congratulating our newest credential holders.  Nice going!  I encourage you to apply for yours and join the 283 NYC Chapter credential holders.  Need help?  Email me and we'll find a process buddy for you.  And, welcome to our 34 newest Chapter members - we're happy to have you with us!

That's it for now - enjoy your summer!

All the best,

Margaret

Sometimes we find ourselves in a space that seems to be invaded by issues that are psychological:  long-standing, poorly defined, and troubling.  these concerns can derail the coaching process.  The purpose of this talk is to raise questions that might illuminate the pond when these difficulties arise.

Benefits of Coaching in the Community Outreach Program

The Chapter has partnered with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and Small Business Services (SBS) by coaching food entrepreneurs in their Food Pathway Program. One participant,  The Harlem Pie Man, demonstrated his products at a local Whole Foods store at 97th Street and Columbus Avenue. They sold all of their pies and more are on the way! ICF-NYC Board Member, Joy Passey, is their business coach.

Congratulations to
