Terrapin Release Day 


June 4 is "Terrapin Release Day" at Island Beach State Park.

Park staff and Project Terrapin will offer programs on turtles along with hatchling releases.  This is our third year of the release program.  Read about the event details here.

June Events & Volunteer Opportunities : 

June 3 - Barnegat Bay Blitz:  Volunteers needed! Join the DEP Blitz and help clean up the Barnegat. Click here for more information.

June 4 - National Trails Day: Volunteers needed throughout the morning to help maintain the trails in the park. Please call (707) 636-4277 for more info and to register.

June 5 - Barnegat Bay Festival: Come celebrate the Barnegat Bay at Wanamaker Field in Island Heights. More information here.  The Friends of Island Beach State Park will be tabling at the event. Stop by our table and say hello! Click here for more information.  

June 6 - Sedge Island Kayaking Celebration: Come celebrate and explore the new water trails in the Sedge Islands Marine Conservation Zone on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 am at the A-21 launch site in Island Beach State Park. For info, email: [email protected]

June 11 - Beach Plum Volunteer Meeting: Are you interested in helping with our largest annual event? We'd love to add more friends to the team. Join us on June 11 at 10am in the Nature Center to get involved in this great event. For info, email: [email protected]

Every piece of plastic made still exists today. 
Please reduce your use of plastics. If you must bring them into the park, please carry them out when you leave and recycle appropriately. Thank you.

New Mural in the Admin Building

There is a new mural underway in the IBSP Admin building. Check it out during your next visit.  Kudos to artist Cindy Parisi for a beautiful representation of the park!

Inaugural MAYDAY Results

The May Day Volleyball competition was rescheduled to May 22. Despite the rescheduled date the event was great for the Friends! 

Here are the highlights: 
  • $1,432 was collected from donations at the gate
  • $155 worth of standup paddle board tickets were sold
  • $121 worth of merchandise was sold
  • $100 donation was received
Thanks to all who volunteered to make it a fun and successful day in the park!

Osprey Camera

In April the Friends of Island Beach State Park named the Osprey Camera in honor of legendary conservationist Pete McLain. Bay and Bandit, the osprey living in the camera nest, are just two of 30 pairs of osprey in the park.   View the osprey cam and read more here.

Mark your calendars, the Beach Plum Festival is back! We'll be celebrating all things "beach plum!" Beach plum jelly, beach plum muffins, beach plum ice cream, beach plum .... you get the idea. Additional information will be posted to our website here.
