A new automated FedEx distribution center will open in the Reno area in 2017. FedEx Ground cites doubling its package volume on business days during the past 10 years, and it transports about 6.9 million packages daily.
The site just east of Sparks off the Mustang exist was chosen because of its access to the freeway and the availability of the workforce in the area. FedEx plans to hire 200 initially at startup when the center opens in July 2017. It will have impact on Sparks people because they're 10 to 15 minutes away. It's such a cool part of where we live.
Petco unveiled its latest distribution center in Reno.
Gov. Brian Sandoval was on hand as the company showed off its new 770,640-square-foot center. The facility will employ more than 150 people, according to Petco.
Petco also made a $100,000 donation to the Nevada Humane Society during its grand opening. Reno was called a "logical choice" by Charlie Piscitello, senior vice president. "Not only did Reno provide the available real estate we needed and a geographically convenient location to service our stores in the northwest region, but it's also an extremely supportive business community".
Mary's Gone Crackers bringing HQ, 200-plus jobs to Reno. A manufacturer of organic, gluten-free items has gone crackers for the Biggest Little City. The company will also relocate its headquarters from Chico, Calif. to Northern Nevada.
Gov. Brian Sandoval touted the family-grown company's $35 million in planned capital expenditure, as well as the construction jobs it will create as the facilities are built.
"It's exactly the type of company we want here in Northern Nevada," Sandoval said. "It's about the essence of the American dream."
The company expects construction to be done around October or November. Mary's Gone Crackers also plans to bring hundreds of jobs with the company to Reno, with average wages of $21.03 per hour. About 200 of the planned positions will be filled by the end of 2017.
