Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau
Taking over Bill Phillips' position as Manager - Stockyards Visitor Information Center effective today - April 1, 2016,
Patti started with the Bureau as a Convention Center Registration Assistant in October 2005.
Patti was born in Sherman, Texas - although she spent the majority of her life in Fort Worth. She lived in Nuremberg, Germany for three years and seven years in Pennsylvania.
This is one way that Patti can give back to the community is to serve as a Parliamentarian when called on. She also teaches by-law workshops for voluntary neighborhood association. She claims that this book to be like a bible to her.
Now this is something different - probably you did not know also that Patti had been a vegetarian for 30 years I don't know how she could do that as she is surrounded by a lot of BBQ places in the Stockyards. Right now she said that she is hooked on the Bearded Lady (near Southside) and their veggie options (and craft beers!). This is a unique tavern off of Magnolia. She loves sitting outside in good weather.
According to Patti, this restaurant is also very dog friendly!
(You could tell that Patti loves dogs too. This is her dog Romy - a cowgirl Daschund)
Patti's family consists of her husband Jim and two sons - Adam (35 years) and Allen (31 years) who had been married to Morgan for five years, whom Patti considers as a very wonderful daughter in law. Her family's favorite vacation place is the Y-Camp of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO. This is the place where they spent most of their family summer vacations for the last thirty eight years.... and in the same mountain cabin! We load the car up with family, friends, dogs, backpacking gear, fly fishing equipment and leave civilization for two weeks. (Sounds like a very wonderful relaxing way to spend vacation!)
Patti is an avid outdoors enthusiast - running and hiking. She runs about thirty miles a week and hike trails about twenty miles weekly. The Trinity River and trail system is right outside her back door. Wow! I just hope to survive the 5K this week.....for the FW Zoo Run..
Well, congratulations again, Patti..... Although Bill has big shoes to fill, all of us are confident that your stepping into it will work out best for our team!

Stockyards Historical Facts

An agreement Simpson and Niles made in 1902 with Armour and Swift brought in two of the nation's largest meatpackers, which constructed modern plants adjacent to the stockyards. In a stock reorganization, each packer received a third interest in the stockyards company, and Simpson, Niles, and smaller investors retained a third. In exchange for stock and land on which to build their plants, the packers agreed that each animal they slaughtered would pass through the stockyards at a standard fee. Boom years followed for the Fort Worth Stock Yards Company after the arrival of Armour and Swift. Immigrants came from Central Europe to work in the plants and settled in a community that stockyard officials incorporated in 1902 under the name North Fort Worth.

The Stockyards are a wonderful recognition of Cattlemen and Cowboys steeped in the tradition of the American West; a place today doing primarily the same thing we were doing over 100 years ago. Cattle drives, rodeo, steam train, honky tonks, great places to shop and eat and more. Sincerely,
Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District |
