Kansas Secretary of Commerce Antonio Soavo met Wichita City Council member
Lavonta Williams

Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce  co-hosted  an after-work reception with the Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for  Kansas Commerce Secretary Antonio J. Soave . Soave was appointed to the position by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback late last year. More than one hundred business leaders and elected officials turned out to hear his remarks about the business climate in Kansas.

New Baseball Field at McAdams Park
League 42 baseball players assisted with the dedication of the new turf baseball field.

"This new field will offer more youth a chance to play baseball and learn valuable life skills," said Council Member Lavonta Williams, whose north-side District I includes McAdams. The field, funded with $1.4 million from the capital improvement budget, represents the first phase of a three-year park improvement project. Designed and constructed by Multicon, Inc., the field offers a nostalgic motif to reflect an earlier era and pay homage to the league's namesake, baseball legend Jackie Robinson who wore number 42.

Water Conservation Rebate Program

The City dedicated another $100,000 to the Water Conservation Program this year. Beginning February 1, water customers became eligible to receive a rebate for switching to high efficiency appliances and other water efficient devices: such as HE washing machines, dishwashers, toilets and smart irrigation controls, rain sensors and rain barrels. In the first 30 days of the program, nearly $30,000 in rebates have been awarded.
