Memorial Day Closure

The Town of Westlake municipal offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.  Westlake Town Hall wishes you and your family a  safe and relaxing holiday weekend!

For those families who have served our great nation, and to those who have given their lives in service, we thank you for your dedication, your commitment, and for the sacrifices you have made.
2016 Annual Decoration Day in Westlake:
Pleas join us as the Westlake Historical Preservation Society hosts a special program for our community to honor our fallen soldiers and their families on this 2016 Memorial Day

The WHPS is holding this important event on
Monday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Westlake I.O.O.F. Cemetery, 3101 JT Ottinger Road.

Decoration Day is an old fashioned, small town event held each year for our community to gather and honor the men and women who have died in military service for the United States of America. G uest speaker this year will Mr. Bill Brooks, a multi-talented 40+ year veteran and voice artist, actor, singer, speaker, live event host, producer, director and published author.

The evening will include special music and a program to honor and remember the significance of Decoration Day and Memorial Day. Attendees will also be able to learn more about and participate in the tradition of the Buddy Poppy, with proceeds benefiting our local VFW chapter in Roanoke.  And as usual -  FREE hot dogs will be served along with homemade ice cream and Dutch oven cobblers prepared on site and served by local Boy Scout Troop 170!

We hope you will consider taking time out this Memorial Day evening to attend. Invite your friends and neighbors to come along with your family to honor those that have sacrificed everything to protect our country. Don't forget to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets, camera, and mosquito repellent! Sorry, no pets please.

Need more information? Contact WHPS President Stephen Thornton or call 817-995-9647.

** Not too late to bring your favorite homemade ice cream and enter it into our contest for the best! Contact WHPS Board Member Paula Thornton or call 817-500-8452.

Staff met with the Frontier Communications representatives to discuss the transition issues in Westlake and how we can get them quickly resolved. The list of Frontier contacts below will assist in escalating any unresolved issues. However, please remember you can always contact Jarrod at Westlake Town Hall to assist if you prefer via email or his cell at 817-680-1422.

New City Ordinance Requires Animal Registration

After much discussion and research over the past few months by both Town council and staff, an amendment was recently approved by Town Council at their May 23 meeting. This ordinance amendment  now requires registration for your dog and cat. These changes were  made with an eye toward helping to notif y and return your animal should your pet wander away from home. The update also removed the option to have a dog at heel and securely muzzled while out within the community .  So, please keep your dog on a leash during your walks for everyone's safety .

In an effort to make this registration as fun and easy as possible, we have developed several methods to allow you to register your family pets!  You may:
  • Visit Town Hall with a copy of your animal's latest rabies vaccination paperwork. We have tags and the forms on hand for our residents.
  • Visit Keller Animal Control to register your animal at 330 Rufe Snow Drive.
  • Coming soon: From the comfort of your home of office - you will soon be able to go online and download the registration form (instructions for completing and returning the form and rabies vaccination will soon be on the website).
As an added incentive... e veryone who registers their pet during the month of June will be placed into a drawing for a gift card from Three Dog Bakery in Southlake!

Drawings also will be held for July and August registrations, leading up to a special family fun event in September - Paws on the Plaza!

More information about this morning in September will be sent to you in upcoming emails, posted on social media, and added to our Town's website.  And as a reminder, pet registrations are FREE!
Road Construction Update
The landscape at Entrada is quickly changing, as Westlake's first mixed-use project is beginning to come to life! Here is an update on two current roadway projects for entrance into the development, both with completion dates expected in October (weather permitting).
Solana Boulevard Expansion
Crews are currently doing grade work in preparation for an expansion on Solana Blvd., which will provide the west bound lanes and widen the road to its ultimate width. The project also will reconstruct the intersection of the future major entrance into Entrada, Cortez Drive, and the existing entrance into Granada, Granada Trail.  Cortez Drive will be located directly across from the Granada entrance, and be the first visible roadway into Entrada. The intersection at Cortez Drive and Solana Blvd. will have enhanced concrete, much like what we have on F.M. 1938, and will include a traffic signal. (Two other traffic signals have been approved for the intersections of F.M. 1938/Solana Blvd., and F.M. 1938/Dove Road.) During this Solana Blvd. expansion, traffic shifts will become necessary to accommodate construction. Advance notice will be provided when this occurs. The project will also include installation of utility and storm drain infrastructure.

F.M. 1938 Turn Lanes into Entrada
For direct access to Entrada from F.M. 1938, turn lanes will be constructed. For northbound traffic, a deceleration lane will be constructed on the east side of F.M. 1938 north of Solana Blvd. For southbound entrance into Entrada, the existing median will be cut and a turn lane will be created so traffic can turn east into the development.

Additional information about these projects will be sent out as the construction schedule becomes available. Stay tuned to the Westlake Wire, our website, and the Town's Facebook and Twitter pages to stay informed. For questions or concerns, please contact Public Works Director Jarrod Greenwood via email or at 817-490-5717.
