MEM Student Wins $10,000 for Business Plan

Northwestern University Venture Challenge is a premier business plan competition that provides mentorship and early stage capital for student startups. Student startups pitch their business ideas for a chance to win $200,000. Congrats to our very own MEM student Yash Kaushik and his team who won $10,000 in the semi-finals.  His team will next compete in the NUVC final competition on June 2nd for the chance to win an additional $15,000.  Chicago Innovation Mentors also volunteered to mentor his team for 6-months to help convert their business plan into a start-up.

Dr. McNeeley, President & CEO of Chicago Tube & Iron (CTI), welcomed over 40 students and alumni to tour one of corporate America's most successful enterprises and witness the transformation of classroom theory into a practical environment. In addition to Professor McNeeley, guests  heard from Mark Sowka, VP Engineered Products Group, and Steve West, General Manager of CTI Fabrication Division, before networking with industry professionals on the evening of May 13.

The MEM Student Advisory Board is planning a one night analytics workshop on Friday, June 3rd  from  6:00-9:00 PM  in Tech Room L211 with MEM Alum  Plamen Petrov .  Plamen is currently Associate Partner - IBM Cognitive Business Solutions and will talk about Watson Analytics including Cognitive, Analytics and Cloud business services. Ben Siegel is originally from the Chicago area, but attended the University of Michigan where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. 
 
His favorite part about the MEM is being in class where everyone has work experience and an engineering background.

Wrigley, Jackie Palmer
ALUM
 
Jackie Palmer who graduated from the MEM program last December currently serves as a Technical Service Process Engineer for Wrigley, a subsidiary of Mars Inc. 
 
In her role she represents Research & Development at the factory as "single point of contact" and serves as a technical liaison between New Product Development and Supply Chain/Operations.
