Tampa Bay Times: Fiscal times are good in St. Pete as budget talks revolve around raises, possible tax cut
Climb into a time machine and set the way-back button to four years ago: Destination? City Hall.
St. Petersburg City Council members battled then-Mayor Bill Foster over an eviscerated budget with a $10 million fiscal hole to plug, the result of several years of fiscal havoc brought on by the Great Recession. The council reluctantly raised property taxes to cover the gap.

St. Pete Patch: St. Pete Trash Collection Changes, Memorial Day Closings
As St. Petersburg prepares for the long Memorial Day weekend, the city has announced a number of closings and a bit of a shuffle in trash collection dates.
While all St. Petersburg city government offices will be closed Monday, May 30 in honor of the holiday, some facilities and emergency services will remain open.

Tampa Bay Times: New beginning, high hopes for long-vacant Midtown land
For nearly a decade, a 14-acre patch of land has lain vacant, as city planners' dreams of attracting good-paying jobs to Midtown vanished with the Great Recession and the long, slow recovery.
Originally named the Dome Industrial Park, Mayor Rick Kriseman rebranded the parcel along 22nd Street from Sixth Avenue S to Interstate 275 as "Commerce Park" and made delivering on the long-delayed promise of economic development a priority.

The walls of the bar at the Hemingway International Yacht Club of Cuba are hung with some 100 pennants representing yacht clubs from around the world.
By this time next year, a pennant from the St. Petersburg Yacht Club will likely hang there, too.
