Message from
Msgr. Perry Kavookjian
Garces Rector

Dear Garces Community and Friends:

Now that the 2015-16 academic year is drawing to a close, it is appropriate to express gratitude and thanks to all who helped bring us through another excellent year of learning and formation at Garces:

To all the faculty and staff and personnel who work together for the good of the students each year. We are blessed to have a solid teaching community that has a common goal of doing what is best for the educational and formational needs of each student. Our staff and personnel who assist in various ways also embrace a common vision of what it means to be a part of the Garces community. This is seen in many ways throughout the year-even in the ways we address difficult issues.

To the administration. We are fortunate to have an administrative team that respects each other and is able to work together in a spirit of unity. That doesn't mean there aren't disagreements. There are. But our administrative team, led by Myka Peck, has found a way to surface these concerns, tackle them head-on and move forward. I have to say that there is a real spirit of creative energy that has been contagious this past year. We should look forward to more of the same next year!

To the parents of our students. In case you didn't notice, there was a real sense of trust and confidence on the part of our parents and student's families this year. I believe that this is due to a healthy communication between the administration and the parent community. It contributes to a sense of calm and peacefulness that should be the hallmark of a Christian community.

To the students. By far, Garces has the most friendly, polite, respectful and caring student body. OK...I know that teen-agers will be teen-agers but have you ever been on another high school campus in town? Sorry to say that there is no comparison. Even after the challenging days we sometimes have, we should fall on our knees and give thanks to God for the student body that we have here at Garces. They're the best.

To the benefactors. Without the ongoing generosity of our alumnae, school boosters and those who care deeply for Garces, we would not be able to keep our doors open each year. Undoubtedly, a Catholic school makes great demands on our financial supporters but they have always heeded the call. The words of Christ, "It is better to give than to receive" are played out every day because of the continued generosity of our benefactors.

I also want to express my gratitude to the Board of Directors who have a real heart for Garces and who give of their time and energy to bring much-valued input and guidance to the community.

May the Lord Jesus continue to bless Garces Memorial High School! May the approaching summer bring all of us some refreshment and renewal!

Msgr Perry Kavookjian
