Important Reminder from the MPH Health Office
Nurse Adams send the following to parents of students entering seventh and twelvth grade regarding MENINGOCOCCAL VACCINE school requirements for September 2016.

"All students entering seventh and twelfth grades on or after September 1, 2016 are required to receive an adequate dose or doses of vaccine against meningococcal disease as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). Meningococcal meningitis is a serious disease which can lead to death within hours. Survivors may be left with severe disabilities, including the loss of limbs, cognitive deficits, paralysis, deafness, or seizures."

The requirements for entering seventh and twelfth graders:
* A single dose of vaccine against meningococcal (Menactra® or Menveo®) should be administered to all adolescents at age 11 or 12 years. Therefore all entering seventh graders must have had one dose.

* A second (booster) dose of against meningococcal should be administered at age 16 years. The booster dose is not necessary for adolescents who receive the first dose at 16 years of age or older. Therefore, all entering twelfth graders are required to have had 2 doses, unless the first dose was at age 16 or older.
