School & Youth Program Calendar
The Diversity Center's School and Youth Programming is designed to educate students on topics of diversity and empower them to become agents of change in their schools and communities. All of our programs align with state learning standards and can be used to supplement a variety of curricula.  
Camp STARR (students talking about race relations)
June 21- 24, 2016
Oberlin College

Camp STARR is an intense and interactive 
4-day retreat for high school students. The goal of Camp STARR is for students to explore race relations in  America: past, present, and future. In 2016, we will explore African American history and race conflict from the Middle Passage to the present. Camp STARR participants will be challenged physically and emotionally to better understand themselves and the world in which they live.

Camp Wise

The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio's Annual Fall High School Retreat is a unique three-day opportunity for students and educators of all backgrounds, from all edges of Northeast Ohio, to come together to explore topics of social justice and diversity.

This year's topic  "The Cost of Justice: An Evaluation of Money in America" will allow students to explore topics of socioeconomic status, income inequality, and the impacts of generational poverty.  Students will also take part in financial literacy training provided by a local banking partner.

The Spring Conferences brings together students from dozens of schools across Northeast Ohio. Students break into smaller groups to attend break out sessions where they each discuss a topic related to themes of socioeconomic status and poverty. 

Each year The Diversity Center recognizes one student who exemplifies leadership in the field of diversity as a Diversity Champion.

Diversity through the Arts
In-School
Offered throughout the school year

The Diversity Center's arts-centered diversity education program integrates music, visual, theatrical and English language arts with lessons focused on inclusiveness, tolerance, race relations, and communication skills while promoting student's creativity, leadership, and academic success.

This program develops appreciation for cultural, historical, and political roots of students own identities and examines the complex intersections of race, gender, class, ethnicity, religious belief, gender identity, ability, and age that compromise of the American society

YouLEAD
In-School
Offered throughout the school year

YouLEAD is an on-site middle and high school program in which a core group of students will engage with peers to raise awareness of diversity issues, build leadership skills, and create inclusive environments.

Consisting of a total of six sessions, each YouLEAD session is designed for students to explore self-awareness, collaboration, and social responsibility through the lens of diversity leadership.  YouLEAD is designed as an after school program, but can be modified for delivery during school hours,
or for other student-serving organizations.
62nd Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner

Since 1949, The Diversity Center has honored men and women of outstanding dedication and community service in our region at the Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner.

Up to 40 students who have participated in Diversity Center programs are invited to attend. Students may have the opportunity to enjoy the dinner at the table of a participating company. This event allows students to practice their networking skills and meet with influential members of the business community.

Walk, Rock & Run!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Walk, Rock & Run is a community celebration of diversity. Walkers are welcome to participate free of charge and Runners are able to participate in our chip timed 5K for a fee of $25. Students are welcome to participate in the walk in various ways including walking, running, volunteering, and fundraising! 

Schools who participate in fundraising for Walk, Rock & Run may receive credit for their contribution which can be used to offset the cost of Diversity Center Programming in their school!
