The Hales Corners Lutheran Middle School track team, Hales Corners, WI, represented the school well at the Lutheran Grade School State Track Meet. Both the boys and girls competed well, and the girls are coming home with a State Championship! Way to go, Wildcats! To God be the Glory!

Social Media Savvy
In March, DCE Korey Danley, George Horsey (both from Beautiful Savior in Lee's Summit, MO) and Noah Hardy (Peace Lutheran, McMurray, PA) attended the LCMS Youth Ministry Youth Training Event, "Teens Reaching Teens in a Digital Age." The event provided training on an important and timely topic and also offered fellowship and worship opportunities.
Discussions covered subjects such as the character shown in social media and Christian witness in these platforms.
The quotes below are excerpts of a thank-you letter to the English District Board of Directors. It certainly appears this conference was a great learning experience for George, Noah and the others students from across the country who attended:

I'd like to highlight Terry Leu and Rolston Chicken of the Westside Market, (Cleveland, Ohio) and share our thanks to him with our brothers and sisters of the English District.
I've purchased chicken from Terry over the years for meals in my own home. At each visit we've shared our joys and ideas for youth ministry in our congregations, Terry - Prince of Peace, Medina, Ohio (English District) and mine, St. John, Garfield Heights, Ohio (Ohio District).
When my adult chaperones for the 2016 National LCMS Youth Gathering and I started planning fundraising for our inner ring suburb of Cleveland youth, we decided on a Chicken Paprikash dinner. Searching for the best prices for our meal, I called Terry. At first he quoted me a very good price and then he out-did himself and donated all the chicken that we needed for our fundraiser. Thanks to Terry Leu and his generosity, our youth were able to raise $1500 that goes toward the total fees needed for 10 to attend "In Christ Alone" in New Orleans in July.

The deadline for English District 2016-2017 financial aid is fast approaching! Grants are given to applicants enrolled in synodically approved church work programs. Grants are not given to interns (vicars) or graduate students with the exception of Master of Divinity. Colloquy students will be considered.
If you are aware of any students in your congregation enrolled in synodically approved church work programs, please share this information with them.
The deadline for submission of English District Financial Aid applications is June 1, 2016.

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES
|
|
The first class from Bethesda College, a unique, two-year program designed specifically for students with developmental disabilities, graduated alongside Concordia University Wisconsin students on Saturday, May 14, 2016 on the university's campus in Mequon, WI.
Seven students with developmental disabilities will receive a Certificate of Applied Learning. This post-secondary program - the result of a partnership between CUW and Bethesda Lutheran Communities - is the only one in Wisconsin and within the Concordia University System that blends the best practices of a nationwide service provider for people with developmental disabilities with the learning environment and resources of an accredited university.

The image of the Proverb's woman is an inspiration, but a tall order. How much earlier can one rise or how much later must one work to accomplish all the demands placed on her? Certainly God created women with a specific plan and purpose. God has established the vocation and calling of women in their family and society as unique and essential. As a wife of a pastor or professional church worker today's demands within the church, within her household, and in her community are extensive. Roles may include wife, mother, friend, employee, volunteer, servant leader or support role in a specific church ministry. Proper care for her household includes proper care for herself in mind, body, and spirit. What conscious steps are you taking for this care?

Called to Glory
The Rev. Martin Ernst Lundi, age 81, of Silverton, Oregon was called to his eternal rest on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He is the former pastor of Faith in Naples, FL where he served from 1986-1999. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4663 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97305-1735.
