Other Opportunities, Deadlines, and Events
Below are important reminders and events you may want to be aware of:
  • Attention Masonry Researchers. The University of Florida was recently awarded a National Science Foundation grant that supports research aimed at improving safety of homes and businesses exposed to hurricanes and tornadoes. UF's Powell Family Structures and Materials Laboratory is among seven labs in the nation with the designation of "Experimental Facilities" under the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) program, and one of only two solely dedicated to studying extreme wind events. The UF facilities are available for use by NSF-funded researchers working on wind engineering projects. The UF Facility includes a Multi-Axial Wind Load System (MAWLS) system designed to test walls, components, or cladding specimens up to 18 ft tall by 24 ft wide. This unique test platform is a large-scale dynamic wind effects simulator that imposes dynamic wind pressure in combination with static in-plane shear or uplift forces. If you are interested in submitting an NSF proposal that makes use of the MAWLS or other equipment at the UF facilities, please contact Dr. Trey Hamilton, MTMS (hrh@ce.ufl.edu).
