City of Westland Announces $1 million Newburgh Road Improvement Project
Westland, MI - The City of Westland is undertaking a pavement repair project along Newburgh Road between 400 ft north of Ford Road and Warren Road. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction during construction, with intermittent stoppages of traffic during certain construction activities with flaggers.  The project, which is primarily funded by MDOT is projected to cost $998,000.

Repair work will be scheduled to maintain a minimum of one driveway open to those properties with multiple driveway entrances. Left turns along Newburgh Road will be restricted during the First Phase.

Phase one of the project is slated to begin June 6, 2016 and completed July 5, 2106.  During Phase one the center lane as well as the passing lane in both southbound and northbound will be closed to traffic. Left turn movements will be prohibited through the work zone for safety. Work zone will stop short of the traffic signals at Ford Rd and at Warren Rd allowing vehicles access to turning and through signals/lanes. Once repairs are complete, and the concrete has cured, traffic southbound and northbound will be shifted to the center lanes.

Phase two's tentative start date is July 5, 2016 and is expected to be completed August 1, 2016. During phase 2  the outside lanes or curb lanes will be closed to traffic. Traffic will be shifted to travel along the three center lanes repaired in the prior phase. Right turns to driveways will be restricted to one driveway per property to expedite the duration of the project. Once the repairs are complete, and the concrete has cured, traffic markings will be replaced and existing traffic patterns prior to construction will be restored.

There is no posted detour route for this project. Traffic backups are anticipated, please seek alternative routes when possible and please be patient and careful if you must travel through the construction project.
