Boston Public Schools to Host June 4 BuildBPS Community Forum

Boston - Tuesday, May 24, 2016 - Boston Public Schools Superintendent Chang will host a community forum as part of
BuildBPS
, the school district's 10-year educational and facilities master planning process. The forum will take place on
Saturday, June 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
, in the
Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building
, 2300 Washington St., Roxbury (MBTA: Dudley Square
). Translation services will be available.
"To provide our students with the very best education, we have to ensure that our school buildings are equipped to serve as 21
st
century learning environments," said Mayor Martin Walsh. "BuildBPS is ensuring that we make informed decisions about investments in our facilities that are aligned to the educational vision for the Boston Public Schools."
BuildBPS, a joint initiative of the Boston Public Schools and Mayor Martin J. Walsh, will result in the development of a 10-year master plan to align investment in Boston's school facilities with the district's educational priorities.
"The School Committee is looking forward to this planning process," said School Committee Chairman Michael O'Neill. "Our children deserve to learn in state-of-the art facilities, and this process is one step in the right direction to evaluate the conditions of our existing building inventory."
The event is designed to provide updates on the project, gather input from parents and other community members about priorities for renovation and construction projects, and explore options for 21
st
century school and classroom design.
"Just as teaching and learning are changing at a rapid pace, so must the design of schools and classrooms change to keep up with innovative instruction," said Superintendent Chang. "We are counting on parents, teachers, students, and others in the community to join us in this important process of shaping not only what schools will look like but also what education will look like over the next ten years and beyond."
Parents, students, staff and other residents also are invited to take a
community survey
about Boston's school buildings. The survey is available in nine languages on the BuildBPS website. Respondents will be entered into a drawing to win a Chromebook.
