Fullerton College Commencement Set For May 28
Fullerton College will celebrate the graduating class of 2016 with plenty of exciting "firsts" for both students, families, and the campus as a whole on Saturday, May 28. The ceremony, which will be held for the first time on Sherbeck Field at 10 a.m. will once again honor student achievements, which have led to 2,429 associate degrees awarded for the 2015-2016 school year, many of them to first-generation college students.

Students Present Research at Mini-Conference
The 2016 Honors Psychology Research Methods Mini-Conference Poster Session was held May 11 at Fullerton College. Seventeen students participated in the event where they presented their research. View photos from the event on the

Puente Hosts Year-End Banquet
The Fullerton College Puente Project hosted its year-end banquet on the evening of Thursday, May 19. More than 100 people, including 32 students and their families, 12 mentors and members of the administration, attended.

NOCCCD Awards Four FC Faculty/Staff members with the Innovation Fund Grant
NOCCCD Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology, Cherry Li-Bugg announced that nearly $75,000 will be awarded to recipients through the Innovation Fund Grant Program for the academic year 2016-2017. Among the recipients, four Fullerton College faculty and staff members will have their projects funded.

Laila Arman Memorial Scholarship Keeps Beloved Child's Legacy Alive
In March, a terrible tragedy occurred, when
Fullerton College's academic counselor in the Veterans Resource Center Nick Arman lost his young daughter Laila in a tragic accident. The college has grieved deeply for his family's loss, and many at the college have looked for a meaningful way to show him our support. To honor Laila, the Arman family started a scholarship fund in her name.

Finals Week Hospitality
Associated Students will have the following activities for students during finals week: On Wednesday and Thursday there will be Zumba in the quad from 11:30 am. to noon The "When Finals Are Over" Wall will be in front of the Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and free food, coffee and tea is available in the Student Center, Room 214 for all students. There will also be therapy dogs in the quad on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. thanks to Professor Jodi Balma.

Campus Summer Hours
The college will adopt a Monday through Thursday (4/10) work week in the summer between June 6 and August 11. Most campus services will be unavailable on Fridays during those dates.
A comprehensive list of summer hours for Fullerton College will be posted on the News Center at a later date.
Information Services to Perform Midyear Maintenance
NOCCCD Information Services will conduct its midyear scheduled maintenance starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5. During this time period, all systems will be unavailable including Banner, myGateway, and Fullerton College Blackboard.

Classified Staff Appreciation Lunch
Staff are invited to the annual
Classified Staff Appreciation Lunch on June 1. There will be tacos made-to-order, desserts and side dishes courtesy of FC managers, a photo booth, music and volleyball on the Quad. Come hungry! A dinner will be held for the night crew on a later date.

Cultural Competence Workshop
This professional development session will help participants identify and develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to work with all students. The session will have a particular focus on how to understand the challenges of diverse learners and how to adopt culturally responsive approaches to help students reach their maximum potential. SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union will be on campus June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 820-P. Fullerton College Opera brings an entertaining program of beautiful and exciting scenes from the great world of opera directed by Aram Barsamian.
The Directors' Festival is a multi-genre celebration of student and faculty directed short plays and performance pieces. The Best of the Fest is on Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is free for Best of Fest with a donation of a non-perishable food item. No tickets will be sold for Best of Fest.

Football
FC linebacker Thomas Cletcher has decided to sign with Baylor and center Jack White will play for Indiana State next season. A 1st Team All-State selection, Cletcher led the team in tackles with 70 in 10 games played last season.

The Hornet's team MVP Brigid Ruiz has decided to continue her education and playing career at Sonoma State University. Ruiz was stellar during her two seasons at Fullerton College helping the Hornets to two 20-win seasons and to two Southern California Regional playoff runs.

Men's Track and Field
Justin Walker ended his freshman season as an All-American in the Long Jump, taking fourth place with a jump of 7.13m (23ft. 4.5 inches). Walker had a great season, posting personal bests of 7.50m in the Long Jump and 14.34 seconds in the 110m HH. He ranked in the top three in both events for most of the season.

Women's Track and Field
Sophomore Samantha Duong entered the State Championships, held at San Diego Mesa College over the weekend, and leapt away as an All-American in the 400 meter hurdles! Duong finished third overall in the 400 meter hurdles qualifying her as an All American Athlete.

Three FC soccer players will play at the four-year level next season. Mallory Van Voorhis signed with Colorado Christian, Nicole Garcia signed with Missouri Valley, and Emily Horan signed with Minnesota State Moorhead.
