DIVERS RESCUED FROM STILLWATER COVE AT PEBBLE BEACH

At least two divers were rescued Saturday afternoon off the coast of Pebble Beach, according to fire officials.

At 12:47 p.m., units from Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District, Cypress Fire Protection District and Pebble Beach Community Services District, responded to the distress call at Stillwater Cove in unincorporated Monterey County, fire officials said.  READ FULL STORY

BEAUMONT FIREMEN HAILED AS HEROES AFTER PULLING MAN FROM BURNING BUILDING

When Beaumont firefighters Michael Esparza and Mark Bruns responded to a call of a "fully involved fire" at a local house on the morning of April 29, 2015, they didn't know for sure what they would find on arrival. But that uncertainty is exactly what they train for.

As they approached the location on Christie Street in Banning, the house was engulfed in flames. And there was no apparent way out for the person trapped insise. READ FULL STORY

IAFF URGES CONGRESS TO SUPPORT FIREFIGHTER CANCER REGISTRY ACT

General President Harold  Schaitberger joined members of Congress May 17 at a press conference to promote legislation establishing a national fire fighter cancer registry.
The  Firefighter Cancer Registry Act (H.R. 4625 / S. 2799) would allow novel research on cancer in fire fighters by providing scientists with new data. READ FULL STORY

CalPERS BENEFICIARY 
DESIGNATION INFORMATION
  
Death benefits are paid according to the valid beneficiary designation on file. Benefits may be paid per statutory beneficiary order if there is no designation on file or the designation was revoked.
    
CalPERS will determine who the death benefits are payable to after they receive and review all the required documents. To designate your beneficiary, use one of the options below. 
 
Online:

Log in to  my CalPERS to name, review, or change your beneficiary. Beneficiary designations made as of August 5, 2013 are available online.
 
By Mail:
 
Active members who want their death benefits paid to a designated beneficiary must complete a  Beneficiary Designation (PDF) and mail it to the address listed on the form.
 
All members, make sure  to fill out a power of attorney with CalPERS. Click here to for the form.
 
Retired members designated the beneficiary for their death benefits when they retired. There are limited situations after retirement when a member can choose a new option or beneficiary. To learn more, review  Changing Your Beneficiary or Monthly Benefit After Retirement (PUB 98) (PDF).

2016-17 RICHARD J. ERNEST SCHOLARSHIPS

A reminder to all members and their dependents who wish to apply that  June 15th is the postmark deadline for the 2016-17 Richard J. Ernest Scholarship applications.
