Marcelo Casillas, District 4 Trustee, was named vice chair. Dr. Gene Sprague, District 6 Trustee, was elected secretary, and Denver McClendon, District 2 Trustee, was elected assistant secretary. Casillas and McClendon, along with District 1 Trustee Joe Alderete, Jr. and District 3 Trustee Anna U. Bustamante, were recently reelected to serve on the board through May 2022.
Bustamante, who previously served as the first Hispanic female board chair, was awarded an associate degree from Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College (SAC) at its commencement ceremony on May 14.
Presented by SAC President Dr. Robert Vela, the degree was awarded by way of 'reverse transfer' and officially recognizes her academic achievements at San Antonio College.
Before earning her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Bustamante took classes at SAC and earned the requisite number of credits for an associate degree.
