"Elite Continuing Education" Programs are NOT APPROVED for NJ Social Workers!
The Board of Social Work Examiners (NJ Licensing Board) has asked NASW-NJ to share this information with all NJ social workers.

PLEASE NOTE:
Elite Continuing Education has recently sent a book filled with Continuing Education (CE) programs to many New Jersey Social workers. However, these courses will not be accepted by the NJ Board of Social Work Examiners (BSWE) for CEUs toward your NJ license requirement.

The reasons for this are outlined in "Tips for Understanding the New Jersey Social Work Regulations for Continuing Education" (at http://tinyurl.com/NJCETips). Review sub-section a) under the information entitled " Where can I take CE courses? What courses are accepted by the Licensing Board?"

You will note that courses offered by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW National) or any NASW State Chapter, including NASW-NJ, will be accepted. However, courses offered by a third party but only approved by NASW National are not currently accepted by the BSWE.

All Social Work Licenses and Certifications must be renewed by August 31, 2016 and your CEUs for this licensing cycle must be completed by that date. Please review the entire "Tips" document for full details on what courses are accepted for NJ Social Workers by the NJ BSWE.

NASW-NJ Member Raises Alarm on Elder Abuse
Some 85 caregivers employed by 11 agencies of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ heard a geriatric social worker declare that the problem of senior abuse is growing, within and outside the Jewish community.

"The number of people aging is increasing, and they are living longer," said Helen Hunter, an independent geriatric social worker consultant and trainer from Middlesex County who has worked with senior citizens for 34 years. "Many are being cared for at home, and possibly some caregivers are not trained to know how to deal with folks who are in bad condition."

NJ Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Slows Transition to Fee-for-service

After hearing feedback from numerous providers, last week the State announced that it would allow some providers to delay the transition to the new fee-for-service Medicaid system from January 1, 2017 to July 1, 2017. Still providers have concerns that the new Medicaid system for some mental health and addictions care will force providers to cut programs because of budget shortfalls.
