CHURCH AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Celebrating Confirmation
We rejoice with the new confirmands at Concordia Lutheran Church, Berwyn, IL. May God bless you as you move forward in faith.

Welcome new members!

Tara and Chris were welcomed as new members at Faith Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI.

Spring Concert
On Sunday, May 15, 2016, Grace Lutheran Church, Redford, MI hosted the Redford Civic Symphony's Annual Spring Concert.
A reception was held in Fellowship Hall following the concert hosted by the Women's Ministries of Grace. Cookie recipes from their cookbook were used.

For four years Grace has hosted the concert. It is wonderful way to open the doors to the community.
Schools
Grace English School, Chicago, IL, recently finished the first phase of the playground area by filling some holes and resurfacing. The project is being funded with the Big City Mission: Tools for Schools grant. LCMS district executives nominated schools in their respective districts, and Grace English was chosen to receive an award. Children throughout the country collected funds this past summer to help Lutheran schools in urban areas through the "Big City Mission: Tools for Schools" mission project, included in the Vacation Bible School program offered by Concordia Publishing House. The students at Grace English are very excited to get a new playground!

WALI Summit
The Worship Arts Leadership Institute (WALI) has actively participated in presenting at the Better Practices Ministry Conference for years. WALI exists to connect leaders of worship with one another for empowered learning, common support, and professional inspiration.

1. Worship Theology
2. Ministry Leadership
3. Practical Skills

The next WALI Summit on June 22-24, 2016 will be at Brookfield Lutheran Church in Brookfield, WI (suburb of Milwaukee). Registration for the event is still open and the current rate of $139.99 is available through the end of May. Group rates apply for teams of 5 or more.

Advice for handling online trolls
Peter Slayton, Social Media Manager for The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, manages the strategic direction for the LCMS' social media channels. He wrote a wonderful blog post on how to handle "trolls:" those who deliberately try to stir up negativity and nastiness by leaving questionable and often hurtful remarks on social media pages and blog sites. Click on the link to learn how to handle these types of situations should they arise:  http://blogs.lcms.org/2016/when-trolls-attack
ENGLISH DISTRICT BLOG
Why a Professional Church Workers Conference?

Our guest blogger, Rev. Ben Eder of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the First Vice President of the English District, shares his feelings on the importance of Professional Church Workers Conferences. The English District will host the PCWC from June 14-16 in Hales Corners, Wisconsin.

It's that time of year again - our district will soon hold its Professional Church Workers Conference as well as the regional pastors conferences in the fall. Which leads me to ask the question, "Why a pastors/professional church workers conference?"

LOOKING FOR ORGANIST'S EDITIONS
The Apostolic Lutheran Church in Moses Lake, WA is a newly formed LCMS congregation and became a part of the English District on March 6, 2016. They are searching for the following two spiral-bound organ accompaniment books:
  • The Lutheran Hymnal: Organist's Edition
  • The Lutheran Hymnal: Organist's Liturgy
If you have one or both of these and are willing to donate them to The Apostolic Lutheran Church, please email Debbie Cordis at [email protected].
