Church and Grounds Beautification  ...

You may have noticed that grounds committee has started planting our new garden. I want to thank Janet and David Repka, for digging holes for the bushes. The rains stormed in, and the Repkas kept on digging! Thanks also to Elin Botha for her careful work with the liriope, and to Cathie Morton for working all around, wherever there was a need. Thanks especially to my partner in this entire endeavor, Rosemarie Barrett, who has worked tirelessly in the planning the garden with our designer, Suzanna Membrino, and in shopping all around for the best plants and the best deals.

With a parish party scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd, Grounds Committee is going to reconvene on Saturday morning, May 21, at 9-9:30 a.m. We would absolutely love to have the garden in ready in time for Sunday's party. To accomplish this, we need extra hands, for shoveling, planting, and watering. Please consider giving an hour, or more, this coming Saturday morning. Come early, come later, whatever works. The rewards will be seeing the garden come together on Saturday morning, and knowing that you have been part of bringing beauty to our church grounds.

Trail Notes ...

Everybody Loves a Picnic

Think of it as a re-enactment of the Feeding of the Five Thousand. Picture a grassy hillside, rolling down to the edge of a large lake. Jesus has just finished a spell-binding teaching; the crowd is electric! And really hungry.  here is no McDonald's or Chipotle to stop and get a bite, nor did most of them have money to buy food. What to do? The disciples didn't know.  But Jesus asked them all to spread their blankets on the green grass. He asked for people to share whatever they had.  He blessed what they offered. And it was enough...with lots of leftovers! We can do that today, and every Sunday, as we ask God to bless our gifts, and share our own stories.

It's also Trinity Sunday - a feast of the church that points to the awesome majesty of God: three ways we know God. But actually, we know God in many, many ways - when we open our eyes, when we taste and see what the Lord offers us.  What hungers do you bring to church with you this Sunday? Are there ways God is filling and nourishing you today?

Listening Sessions with Jeff ...

Jesus often said, "Those who have ears, listen!"  I want to follow Jesus' command, to listen to you, by meeting with all parish households in small groups of up to 10 people in June. There will be 7 meetings held throughout the month, and I hope everybody will say yes to attend one of them. All of you will receive an invitation to a group near you.  If you decline, we'll work with you on another time until we get to yes!  If you'd rather call the church office, Kim will help find a convenient meeting for you to attend. I'll be present - and listening - at every meeting.  Refreshments will be served.
This is very important to me!   Please give 60-90 minutes of your time to help build up our parish.  - Jeff MacKnight

What is a listening session with the rector?

will not  ask for money, or ask you to take on a new volunteer role at St. Dunstan's!
  • will ask your thoughts on what is working well at St. Dunstan's, and what is not working well for you.  I'll be at every session, listening.
  • will ask your input on the future direction of our parish, what interests you, what you are passionate about.
  • will ask you to give us information for our data base, on your gifts and skills, household birth dates and baptismal dates, if available.
Each session will last 60 to 90 minutes. If you can't come to the one in your neighborhood, please find another session to attend. I want to hear from everybody!  Choose any date/time that works for you.  Email Kim in our office, [email protected]   Please come! I need to hear from you.

Parish Notices ...

Could this be your ministry!
The altar guild is seeking new members to serve about once a month. The need is great! The altar guild works in teams of two, meeting on Saturday mornings to prepare the church. Duties consist of caring for the silver and brass, linens and candles, setting up the hymn boards, changing the altar hangings, and caring for the kneelers. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Ann Johnson at 301-229-4323.

Kitchen Towels
If you have graciously taken kitchen towels or dish cloths home to be washed, we are very grateful. However, the drawers are very empty; so could you please return them to the kitchen at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
