May Insider 2016

Director's Take
I can smell the aroma of completion! It feels good to be able to finally communicate th at I will be announcing an official grand opening date in the next newsletter. We've ALL been waiting...with bated breath...and in my case, nervous energy, sleepless nights, knee-bent prayers, sudden gray hairs, and "Don't quit! Keep going!" mantras. It has been a challenging but amazing journey and I am in complete awe of all the wonderful families, community leaders, trade unions, business owners, private donors and volunteers that have joined hands with me to breathe life into Play-Place. I am thrilled to say, "I could not have done this without you!!!" THANK YOU!  Stay tuned everyone, as together we get ready to venture into a whole new realm of inclusion, acceptance and support.

April was an extremely exciting and appreciation packed month at Play-Place:
  • DSI- Distributor Service Inc. filled our entire laminate needs for window sills and custom-made tables throughout the center;
  • The Lego Castle has officially achieved royal status after being beautifully bestowed with an exquisite brick-painted decor, compliments of our amazing artist friend, Greg C. Brown.
  • Slat wall for the store and Lego room was generously donated by Detroit Store Fixtures & All American Plywood;
  • Steve Kirn & Acoustech granted a wonderful gift of ceiling tiles to outfit Play-Place's Inspiration Hall and Bistro Connection;

  • Speaking of electricians, thanks to IBEW Local 58 & Ferndale Electric, we have officially switched our lighting system from florescent to LED. Hooray!
  • Great news! We passed our ductwork, electrical, plumbing and fire-safety inspections due to the wonderful work of Sheet Metal Workers Local 80, Sprinklerfitters Local 704; IBEW Local 58; Plumber Union Local 98; AND
