Bomi Maternal and Child Health Project Objective:  to restore maternal and health services to the 17 health facilities in Bomi by June 2016. Achieved through: Training 68 skilled birth attendants in lifesaving skills and use of reproductive health kits Increasing institutional delivery by 50% of its pre-Ebola status Recruiting and identifying 60 midwives to refer for facility based antenatal  care) and deliveries    Read more here.

Safe Home and Social Services Objective:  to provide services to survivors of sexual violence Achieved through: Safe Home for 38 survivors  Shelter and services to 45 juveniles 25 young women and their10 children were enrolled in THINK Home  Follow up on 37 children affected by Ebola  Clinical management and treatment for 120 children             Read more here.

WASH in Schools Objective:  to provide clean water and sanitation education to primary schools in Riverless County's Central C1 Education District Achieved through: Construction has broken ground for 5 schools to become safe water points 2,300 students will gain access to safe water for drinking, cleaning, hand washing and hygiene purposes. Maternal Waiting Home Objective:  to provide a shelter for expecting mothers to stay in Konobo District's capital (Ziah Town) before childbirth and prepare for safe, facility-based delivery Achieved through: Partner with Ministry of Public Works and County Health Team to review contract bids. Educational Scholarships for Girls Objective:  to provide scholarships for 15 teenage girls Achieved through: 15 girls applications were selected for GNF scholarship (see here and here) Three parent meetings are held to educate parents around supporting their students Monthly tutoring sessions are key in keeping students on track Liberia Now Academy will open doors September 2016 Read more here.

Elizabeth Scharpf and SHE!  Sustainable Health Enterprises Our event at the Santa Barbara Foundation on February 9th was wonderfully attended and we learned about Scharpf’s work in Rwanda. Scharpf is a leading young social Entrepreneur , recognized by Harvard Business School and New York Times columnist Nick Kristof for using business solutions to tackle world problems.  Scharpf presented SHE28 which addresses women and girls access to affordable menstrual pads. SHE28 is currently rolling out a franchise model using eco-friendly and affordable sustainable raw material, banana fiber.     Check out the rocking SHE video here.
