Two CCS Students Named National Merit Finalists!
THEY DID IT! Congratulations to Laura Silvashy and Isaac Smearsoll, who were recently named National Merit Finalists! This is the first time in school history that there are TWO National Merit Finalists in one year for CCS.
After being named National Merit Semifinalists in September (based on their PSAT scores), Laura and Isaac then had to complete an application, write an essay, and submit transcripts and teacher recommendations to become Finalists. This honor is reserved for approximately the top 0.5% of seniors in each state each year.
What does this really mean for Laura and Isaac? In addition to the honor bestowed on them, Laura and Isaac are now eligible to receive full-ride college scholarships from select universities and also are in the running for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
We couldn't be prouder of our two Cougars!

CCS Student Sings with The Four Tenors
CCS 6th grader,
Tyler Daniels, is a member of the Cincinnati Boychoir Tour Choir, which was invited to sing with The Four Tenors at The Aronoff Center recently! What a super opportunity to share young talent within the professional choral arena.
Mrs. Karina Gross
(our Elementary Campus Music Teacher) was back stage and said it was a "great time!"
Mrs Gross also proudly reports that
four more CCS elementary age boys will be participating in the Cincinnati Boychoir Program this year.
Maddock Reed, Solomon Troutman, Andre Slabber and Will Riegler were accepted into the Training Choir. They join Tyler (above) and Ethan Daniels, who is already in the training choir.
Bravo, boys!

"Arsenic and Old Lace" Has Audiences Laughing
Nothing creates as big a stir as two old lady serial killers (
Olivia Nell
and
Bernadette Beacham), their crazy son who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt (
Sam Curtis
), another murder crazy son (
Jesse Keller
) and his cohort Dr. Einstein (
Josh May). The only sane characters of the bunch, another son named Mortimer (
Alex Dunman
) and his fiance (
Brooklyn Allison
), bring it all back together, making sure everyone ends up where they need to be - in jail or the funny farm. What a hoot!

CCS "Represents" at ACSI District Spelling Bee
Each January, CCS Junior/Senior High Campus hosts the ACSI District Spelling Bee.
Mrs. Courtney Rice, JH/SH Campus Librarian, coordinates this engaging event.
This school year, 7th grader,
Olivia Reese placed 3rd and
is also first alternate for the regional competition for placing 6th in the final spelldown!

Elementary Student Chef-in-Training Gets On-the-Job Experience at Junior/Senior High Campus
A unique and exciting learning experience took place between CCS 3rd grader,
Caleb Glenn
and
Mr. Keith Thompson
, our JH/SH Campus Hot Lunch Program Director. Mr. Thompson happily had Caleb spend several work hours with him preparing the campus hot lunch menu. Caleb learned not only how to prepare larger quantities of these items, but also how to effectively meal plan, the business aspects of becoming a chef, and even the
concept of FIFO (first in first out) food item inventory! What an informative and exciting day for Caleb! Special thanks to Mr. Thompson for taking the time to inspire a young chef-to-be!

Science Students Take a Forensics Field Trip
Thirty
junior and senior science students
received first-hand experience at Little Miami University - Middletown in the area of TLC - thin layer chromatography. While visiting the Levey Hall Science Labs at Miami, the students spent the morning analyzing analgesic samples to determine their content.
Mrs. Kim Stone
, one of our JH/SH biology teachers, wants her students to be exposed to the types of experimentation actually taking place in universities across the country. These hands-on field trips allow the students to "get a taste" of what it would be like to work in a particular science area. What an excellent way to spark science passion!

Elementary Art Classes Learn First Hand about Recycling
The Elementary Campus, along with Cincinnati Beautiful, had Barb Wriston-Ruddy visit for a full day, talking to our 6th grade art classes about recycling and the importance of keeping our communities "green."

worked together to bring a fun experience to the students; they made their own paper! On the same note,
Mrs. Gina Smearsoll
is working with a local recycling center to, hopefully, roll out a recycling program at the Elementary Campus. Stay tuned for more in the near future!

Our Chik-Fil-A Leadership Academy Hangs at Haven House
Select CCS JH/SH students participate in the local Chik-Fil-A Leadership Academy, and regularly meet to learn what it means to become excellent community leaders.
Most recently, this group served food and brought presents to the 11 children and 10 adults living at the Haven House,
a refugee shelter for the hungry and homeless,
located in downtown Hamilton. The students got to spend time with those at the shelter, sharing God's love through fellowship and sharing the Christmas story. $731 dollars had been raised to purchase the gifts for this very successful event, and the students would like to thank everyone who contributed, for giving money to going to the shelter!

Little Buddy Program Well Underway
The Elementary Campus "Little Buddy Program" is an annual program where our 1st and 5th graders, as well as students in Kindergarten and 6th grades, are matched up in pairs to do fun things together throughout the school year! The older students mentor the younger students and forge lasting friendships and memories by not only doing projects together, but also by taking field trips!
The 1st and 5th graders are collaborating on a reading project together right now. More learning made fun!

Project Mañana Visits CCS
CCS hosted Brian and Carolina Berman from Project Mañana, the organization that operates our new sister school in the Dominican Republic. Mr. and Mrs. Berman spent time at both campuses, stopping by some classrooms, meeting with the principals and members of the CCS School Board, and even speaking at the JH/SH Chapel.
The small school they opened is currently for Preschool - 4th graders, but the Bermans have a vision of a PS-12th grade school in the future. It was super meeting them in person and being able to fellowship with our new international partners!
The Bermans are looking forward to hosting our group of 32 missionaries traveling over Easter Break.

Fire Safety Poster Contest Winner
Congratulations to the Fire Safety Poster Contest winner, Emma Stevens from the Elementary Campus. Emma and Mrs. Crichton visited the Fairfield Fire House and had lunch with the firefighters!

Mrs. Rice
and
Mrs. McKay
took their
5th graders
to Tri County Assembly's food pantry as their grade's Service Learning Project. The students served by working several jobs there. Serving TCA in this manner helps the students learn about giving, serving, and donating to the food pantry, and "They really like going," said Mrs. Rice. The 5th graders collected and donated many non-perishable food and personal hygiene items, appreciated so much by the TCA Food Pantry. The plan is to return again next semester.

Student Flutist Accepted to Honor Band
Mr. Brian Goslee, our JH/SH Campus Music Director is proud to announce that freshman flutist, Maggie Brown auditioned for and was accepted to the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 13 Freshman Honor Band. This band is made up of the finest 9th grade players from our region. Maggie performed in the Honor Band concert at Mason High School in January.

New Mini Mac Lab Now Open at the Elementary Campus
The Elementary Campus is fully aligned with Apple products! The Technology Team installed brand new Mac Mini computers that replaced the aging Windows-based PC's. The Mac Mini lab is available to all students for a variety of opportunities: I-station training, MAP testing, and computer classes to address keyboarding, coding, and other media-based programming. Adding this lab was an integral part of preparing the TK - 3rd grade students for the Mac OS, distributed when they are ready for 4th - 6th grade personal laptop use.

Cub Scouts Serve at Christmas
Pack 912 came together to support Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe box ministry.
The national collection week was held during the same week as the boys' November Pack meeting, and since Cub Scouts are HELPFUL, they used some of their pack meeting time to pack shoe boxes with gifts, showing God's love in a very personal way to children all over the world.

CCS Athletic Alum Still Active
At this year's Athletic Boosters' Annual 5K, they implemented the Active Alumni Award! It's a great way to recognize our most tenured alumni participating in the annual race. This year's recipient was
Gina "Bates" Pater,
CCS Class of 1980.
What a blessing and encouragement it is to see so many of the alumni of our school participating in the race!
