Hi!

As we enjoy the parades and cookouts of the long holiday weekend, let us please take a moment to reflect on the origin of what was originally called Decoration Day: a remembrance of those who have died in our nation's service. At 3:00p.m. on Monday, join in the National Moment of Remembrance, wherever you may be, to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice with your thoughts and with your silence for just one moment. Perhaps make a visit to Arlington, where, on the Thursday before Memorial Day, the 1,200 soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry will placeAmerican flags at each of the more than 260,000 gravestones of the fallen. On Monday, May 26th at 11:00 am, Senator Douglas J.J. Peters and I will be honoring our fallen heroes at the Memorial Day Services, hosted by the American Legion Disney-Bell Post 66, Bowie Veterans Memorial Park 12700 9th St Bowie MD 20720, across from the Ascension Catholic Church.  Please come and joins us.  While most of us think of the last Monday in May as the unofficial start of summer, we should all try to remember the meaning of the day.

Free and fair elections are one of the cornerstones of our political system. Millions have fought and died so that we can continue to participate in the longest-running democratic experiment in the history of the world.  Voting is a privilege and the most effective way of making your voice heard.  Maryland's primary election day is June 24th.  Early voting begins on June 12th and runs through June 19th.
Click here for voting sites. Please don't forget to check your latest voter registration card as your legislative district may have changed.

Please let me know if you would like me to attend any neighborhood meetings or community events in the coming months; I would like to hear your ideas, concerns, and comments.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend and I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

 Geraldine
