Gavin has a real talent for gymnastics and a true love of the sport. He was moved to the competitive team after only a month in recreational classes at Texas Star. Gymnastics has helped Gavin learn self-control, as well as learning to control his emotional responses, as well as taught him about keeping your body healthy. Over the last year and a half, he has advanced so well he skipped level 5. The hours and financial commitment for him to continue has been rough on our family. When I told Gavin that he had received the DFF scholarship, so he could go back to full hours of practice, he started jumping around his room cheering. Thank you Discover Fitness Foundation for continuing to make it possible for my husband and I to continue to support Gavin with his passion for a sport!

Next Step Academy
The
Next Step Academy is a day treatment program that is specially designed to meet the educational needs of individuals with developmental delays, specifically individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Next Step Academy receives a scholarship from the DFF for gymnastic class. On Friday, February 12th in lieu of their regular gymnastic classes the students held a pizza and movie night at Discover Gymnastics. 15 students along with their siblings attended and enjoyed spending the evening with their teachers and practicing gymnastics.

"I coach Next Step Academy classes and I have been honored to work with such strong willed, hard-working kids who truly enjoy participating in gymnastics! I've seen these kids grow enormously from the first day. They have a sense of pride now walking through the door, and every child looks confident in themselves. These activities might not be easy for some, but once the child has achieved their goal, and you see the smile on their faces you know it was life changing. This is why I believe the Discover Fitness Foundation has been the confidence booster that these children really need in order to achieve their goals in life. I've enjoyed working with each group and can't wait to see what life has in store for these amazing kids!"
