I have received an update from BGE on their preparations for the possibility of Hurricane Joaquin. As I am sure you know, the electric companies and the County are taking the necessary steps to prepare on the chance that the Hurricane heads our way. I wanted to share their letter and press release with you in case you want to write down the necessary numbers on the hopefully slim chance you will need to call in an outage.
I also wanted to send along the County alert number where you can register for a text or email alert for weather emergencies.
Let us all hope that the preparation is for no real cause but it is good to have these supplies and numbers on hand. Have a good weekend and stay safe.

Customers should report service interruptions or downed wires to BGE at 877-778-2222. BGE asks all customers, including those with smart meters, to report their outage. Outages may also be reported at
BGE.com and through mobile devices. Customers can find information on preparing for natural disasters and other emergency events at
the storm center on BGE.com, as well as storm preparation information and restoration progress via BGE's social media sites
Twitter and
Facebook.
We thank our customers in advance for taking the time to prepare their homes and families.
Should the storm affect central Maryland, BGE will work to keep customers updated through the company's website, local media, social media channels.
Customers are reminded to have the following basic items on hand:
- Flashlights - not candles
- Fresh batteries
- Battery-operated clock radio
- Corded telephone
- Fully charged cell phone
- Non-perishable foods
- Water - one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days for drinking and sanitation
- First aid kit
- Local maps
- Blankets

Residents are Reminded to sign-up for Alert Prince George's (formerly Notify Me Prince George's), the County's Notification System
Landover, MD- The Prince George's County Office of Homeland Security, reminds residents to sign up for Alert Prince George's. Formerly, Notify Me Prince George's, Alert Prince George's offers residents businesses and visitors an opportunity to receive timely and secure emergency notifications and alerts during a major crisis or event. In addition, Alert Prince George's provides various updates regarding severe weather, utility problems, severe traffic or major road closures.
Alert Prince George's offers customization features that allow registrants to set personal account preferences. You may opt to receive information about a specific neighborhood such as your home or workplace or your child's school. You can also select your preferred delivery method such as text, email or a phone call. Users can also create "quiet periods and do not disturb" timeframes to limit when you receive message and manage their personal profiles via a downloadable "Everbridge" App.
Alert Prince George's is available to anyone who lives, works, plays or visits Prince George's County. To sign-up for the system, visit Alert.mypgc.us to register your information. Current subscribers are also encouraged to log-in and update their existing account.
