Town Hall Meeting this Wednesday Evening, Nov 18, to discuss sentencing policies and justice strategies

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know about an important meeting taking place in Prince George's County on this Wednesday evening, Nov. 18 from 6-8:30 p.m., at the Suitland Community Center, 5600 Regency Lane, Forestville, MD, 20747.

It has been my privilege this year to serve on the Maryland Justice Reinvestment Coordinating Council (JRCC), a group whose mission is "to develop a statewide policy framework of sentencing and corrections policies to further reduce the state's incarcerated population, reduce spending on corrections and reinvest in strategies to increase public safety and reduce recidivism."

Working to reduce jail sentences, reduce state spending on corrections and address the many issues which lead to recidivism will be front and center in the coming Maryland General Assembly Session in January.   Wednesday night's Town Hall Meeting is one of a series of meetings which have been held throughout the State this year to hear from the stakeholders.   The bi-partisan Council is made up of legislators, government administrators, attorneys, law enforcement officials and others.   The Prince Georgian legislators serving on the Council include Sen. Doug Peters (District 23), Del. Erek L. Barron (District 24) and myself.   The JRCC is chaired by Christopher Shank, Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCAP).

For more information on the JRCC, visit  http://goccp.maryland.gov/jrcc/index.php.
Prior registration to speak was required but it should prove to be an interesting discussion and I hope to see you there.

Regards
Geraldine
