/ FLEX ON-DEMAND SHUTTLE SERVICE LAUNCHES IN NSJ
#northsj
There's a new tool to get around North San Jose. The Valley Transportation Authority launched the new FLEX service on January 11. Flex is a pilot on-demand shared ride public service which provides connections
between high-density employment centers and retail centers within a 3.4 mile radius from the Tasman Light Rail Station.
The new service breaks from the traditional public transit service model, in that there are no pre-set routes or schedules.
Cutting-edge software automatically routes vehicles to pick up customers along a similar travel route while minimizing travel times.
All rides are requested by the customer and dispatched "on-demand" through use of the online app or by visiting the website. You can create an account or find more information on the
FLEX website

/ ACCESSIBILITY LAWSUITS AND YOUR BUILDING: WHAT YOU
NEED TO DO
Hundreds of businesses, including many in San José, are sued every year for not providing feat
ures that enable disabled persons to readily access their building. While newer buildings are likely in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California Building Code, ADA compliance is an ongoing responsibility as requirements evolve. You can get expert help from a Certified Access Specialist (CASp), and only a CASp can provide services that assures your defense status in a construction-related accessibility lawsuit; note that a CASp inspection and a schedule of improvements must exist before a claim is filed against you. Historical buildings are not exempt, although there are special allowances for preservation of historic features. The City also offers a process to consider unreasonable hardship regarding disproportionate accessibility improvement costs. For more information and resources, read the City's Disabled Access Requirements handout.
