David Schultz and Legislative Panel Recap
 

Thank you to everyone who attended last week's legislative panel and luncheon meeting featuring Hamline professor David Schultz. Over 70 heard from seven Saint Paul legislators and Senator John Hoffman on legislative  priorities, and were able to ask questions. Thank you to Rep. Alice Hausman, Rep. John Lesch, Rep. Erin Murphy,  Rep. Dave Pinto, Sen. John Marty and Sen. Sandy Pappas for participating. Over 100 attended the membership meeting and heard David Schultz's insight into today's political world.

February Membership Meeting: Mark Henneman: Investing in Minnesota
Mairs & Power's Mark Henneman will provide a case study informing how a regional economy can create an opportunity-rich landscape for investors. With the state of Minnesota as our example, he will delve into how a regional business culture with a self-reinforcing robust business climate evolves over time and what the drivers are for that development. We will also examine the importance of diversity across sectors, as well as the impacts of cross fertilization of ideas and talents.

 Economic Development Committee Recap 
Today's Economic Development Committee meeting was hosted by HIRED and held at the Griggs-Midway Building. Thanks to our host, Chris Ferguson and Dairy Queen for bringing lunch, and everyone who attended. Also, thanks to all who donated to the Saint Paul Central Robotics team- we were able to raise $278!

St. Thomas hosts "Making a Murderer" attorney
Fans of the popular Netflix show Making a Murderer can listen to one of the featured attorneys at an upcoming event at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. The much anticipated reopening of the Midway YMCA has occurred. Help officially open the space with a ribbon cutting featuring the Midway and Saint Paul Area Chambers.

Nominate for Sustainable Saint Paul award
Mayor Chris Coleman and the Saint Paul City Council are encouraging individuals, businesses and organizations to submit nominations for the 2016 Sustainable Saint Paul Awards, which honor the work being done to protect and restore the environment in Saint Paul. Nominations are due Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Individuals, businesses and organizations may nominate others or themselves. Award categories include:
  • Clean-up or Beautification
  • Energy Efficiency or Conservation
  • Environmental Education
  • Exceptional Environmental Steward
  • Green Building Design
  • Green Products or Practices
  • Local, Healthy Food
  • Natural Resources Conservation
  • Sustainable City Staff

  • Waste Reduction, Composting or Recycling

Award winners will be selected by a subgroup of the City's Sustainable Saint Paul Team, an interdepartmental team of City staff who work on supporting the urban environment. Winners will be contacted late March 2016, and will be invited to participate in an awards ceremony with Mayor Chris Coleman and the Saint Paul City Council on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 3:30 pm. Jan 31 Winter Jazz Fest Lineup Announced
The Twin Cities Jazz Festival has booked all four Winter Jazz Festival stages at The Saint Paul Hotel. The event will showcase local and nationally-known jazz musicians beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Cyrus Chestnut will join Jazz Fest's Artistic Director Francisco Mela and Gerald Cannon as headliners at 6:45 p.m. in the Hotel's Ballroom. Click here to learn more and purchase tickets.
