 Monte Mitchell Scholarship Applications due March 1
The Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation will award one employee from an AEA member company with a scholarship to attend the 2016 AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Orlando, Florida. Candidates must submit a scholarship application no later than March 1. The AEA will cover convention registration fees, along with transportation and hotel costs for the award winner. This year's event takes place April 27-30. This scholarship honors Monte Mitchell's service of more than 40 years to the AEA and the general aviation industry. Mitchell first served as the AEA executive director and later as president of the association from 1977 to 1996.

GA Groups to Congress: ATC Reform More Than Just User Fees; Request Sufficient Time to Review and Debate Bill
With Congress preparing to consider FAA reauthorization legislation this session, a host of general aviation association leaders, including the AEA, recently joined together to send letters to House transportation leaders underscoring "real and long-standing concerns" regarding a concept being pushed by some big airlines regarding air traffic control governance and funding. Specifically, the organizations cited concerns over a proposal promoted by some big airlines for the creation of "a new governance and funding model for our nation's aviation system, based on systems in other parts of the world.

2015 General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey
The 38th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey will begin in February. It is the Federal Aviation Administration's primary source of information about the size and activity of the general aviation and on-demand Part 135 fleet. The survey is conducted on behalf of the FAA by Tetra Tech, an independent research firm, and all survey responses are confidential. Tetra Tech would like to hear from everyone who receives an invitation to complete the survey to prepare accurate statistics on aviation activity. FAA Answers AEA Questions on MAG 5
The Federal Aviation Administration published Notice N 8900.336 addressing the U.S./EU Maintenance Annex Guidance, Change 5 requirements for the FAA Form 8130-3 from Production Approval Holder. On Nov. 30, 2015, the AEA requested clarification from the FAA regarding the scope of parts traceability. On Dec. 7, the AEA met with the European Aviation Safety Agency in Cologne to discuss the traceability requirements. On Jan. 12, 2016, the FAA answered the AEA's request. The FAA letter is consistent with the position explained by the EASA.

 Aéro Teknic melds Passions for Technology, Flying
Aéro Teknic, a maintenance and avionics service center in Montreal, Canada, owner and president Pascal Gosselin eyes a Beechcraft Baron 58P sitting in his hangar. In addition to an all-new Garmin glass cockpit, the 10-week Baron project includes new paint, a new interior and an overhaul of the engines. Gosselin wants to get it right. "We're doing a complete retrofit, removing every single old wire," said Gosselin, a pilot with an airline transport pilot's license and more than 2,400 flight hours. "We sent out the electroluminescent panels to an AEA vendor to relabel to reflect the new equipment to be installed. The owner wants the aircraft to be perfect. He has a Bonanza G36 and wants the same paint scheme on his 58. When we're done, it will be the most beautiful Baron 58P."

Aviation Ace: Todd Winter of Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics
Long-time avionics industry veterans will recognize the significance of Todd Winter's birthplace: Boonton, New Jersey. It was the headquarters of Aircraft Radio Control, one of the nation's pioneering avionics companies that was later acquired by Cessna. His father worked at ARC on some of the first autopilot systems for general aviation. "I was born right into the industry," Winter said. "I was probably hooked from the start." Soon after, his father was lured away by a company that built a key component for autopilots, and the family moved to Houston, Texas. The owner of the company was a general aviation pilot who transported the Winter family from Boonton to Houston in his Cessna 310. "All of our furniture went by truck, and for a 4-year old boy, the flight was quite the experience," Winter said. "I still remember it."

FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL named LUIZ HAMILTON LIMA airline training sales manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and it promoted ALAN MURRAY to assistant manager of the Learning Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The company also added Gulfstream G650 Controller Pilot Data Link Communication to its extensive series of eLearning courses and CPDLC iFlightDECK subscription-based application. It also received Level D qualification from the FAA for two Cessna Caravan aircraft simulators located at its Wichita East Learning Center.
CUTTER AVIATION will play host to several events throughout the Southwest U.S. to celebrate the launch of the new HondaJet.
DAC INTERNATIONAL, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, announced that its latest A-D (analog-digital) converter model GDC62 has been used as part of a European Aviation Safety Agency supplemental type certificate. The GDC62 accepts analog inputs from various radio altimeter models and converts the signal to ARINC 429 format that is compatible with currently available TCAS II digital processors.
