Hosanna E-Update

January 26, 2016
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.
From Pastor Linda

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life." ~From John 11

Dear Friends~

Why do you go to church? Really-why do you go to church?  I think this is an incredibly important question these days when there are so many other options out there. Options: sleep in, catch up on work, go shopping, meet a friend for coffee, read the paper, watch the news, go to your kids' soccer, hockey, basketball... the list goes on and one. So, why, in a world that offers so many choices, do YOU go to church?

I invite you to take a moment to consider these words from Pope Francis who asks a similar question: Why do sinners go to Mass? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr5Q9C0-hno

The answer is found at the center of the question he asks- SINNERS. The people who go to church don't go because they are perfect but because they (we) know ourselves to be in need of Christ's forgiveness and look forward to being renewed by our time in worship. I think Pope Francis gets to the very heart of worship when he says- we go each week to hear of God's forgiving love and leave trying to live into the forgiveness, love and a world of new possibility.

I don't know about you, but I NEED church. At least once a week I need to hear the good news that the God who created and continues to sustain this vast cosmos not only knows that I exist, but actually cares! More than that, I need to be reminded that God cares deeply about my hopes and heartbreaks, my successes and failures. I need to be reminded that this God cared enough to send his only Son Jesus into the world for me. Yes, even ME!!

This good news of great joy is almost too good to be true! Perhaps that is why I go to church... So, why do YOU go to church?

See you in church~   Pastor Linda

Christopher's Crusade Fundraiser
Christopher, son of Melissa & Ryan Schlemmer from our Hosanna family is an amazing little boy with PMM2 Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation. Nearly every body system is affected by this genetic condition. Christopher attends weekly therapy sessions of physical, occupational, and speech therapy as repetition is extremely important for him to strengthen his weak muscles and learn how to do many things. He is heading to California in April for intensive therapy; 4 hours of therapy per day for 4 weeks straight. The costs of this trip are enormous as insurance does not cover all of the therapy and mounting travel costs. Christopher will also be bringing Super Hero Capes to other little heroes at the therapy center! Christopher's fundraising site is below. Please share and give if you feel compelled! Our family is extremely grateful for all of your constant love and support.
https://www.crowdrise.com/christopherscrusade
For each donation we will make another cape
to give to a child in your honor.

Seasons of Marriage
February 19-20, 2016

Spring, summer, winter, fall. Marriages are perpetually in a state of transition, continually moving from one season to another - perhaps not annually, as in nature, but just as certainly and consistently. Each season holds the potential for emotional health and happiness, and each one has its challenges.
This retreat will focus on helping  you and your partner identify which season your marriage is in, and show you how to enhance your marriage in all four seasons.

Green Tip from the Green Earth Team (GET)

SRC is Hosanna's recycler and now accepts  plastic containers marked with numbers 1-7. Rinse clean and flatten when possible, before depositing in the blue recycle bin in the kitchen. Please do not include plastic shopping bags as they clog recycling equipment. The Green Earth Team encourages recycling of paper, plastic, metal, glass, milk cartons and juice boxes at Hosanna and in our homes!
