Are you busy?  I mean really busy??  So busy that days, maybe weeks, fly by and at the end of it you aren't even sure how you made it?  Maybe you need a couple evenings a month to take a deep breath and get a fresh perspective on your life, the lives of others and help out a friend looking for more.

St. Josaphat is proud to announce the start of a wonderful program for our parish.  We will begin to offer SPRED for our friends in the community with special needs.  Right now we have five volunteers who have decided to make time for this, are you interested in learning more on how you can help SPRED and how SPRED can help you?

SPRED was started right in Chicago by Father James McCarthy in the 1960s when he was asked by parents of children with special needs how they could help their children be better prepared to participate in liturgical life.  A few years later the program was official and over time has grown to many parishes across the country and abroad.  Services for these friends of our communities allow them to be an active participant in parish life.

Until now, families of St. Josaphat had to look to other parishes for SPRED services, but beginning in November we will be offering the program for friends ages 17-21.

Five parishioners have already begun meeting and getting to know one another.   We meet monthly and will  begin meeting twice monthly in November.  There are breaks for Christmas, Easter and summer so the commitment works for busy schedules.  We will be meeting on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm.

The weekend of September 19th and 20th we will be at all of the masses selling Tootsie Rolls on behalf of the Knights of Columbus to raise money for this program, we will also be around to talk to interested volunteers and share our thoughts on the program.  But, don't wait until then!  We would love to grow our group!  The groundwork has been laid, join us!  Help you busy schedule become more doable!

We look forward to meeting you! Contact any of us if you have questions!
