ACA Non-Discrimination Draft Rules - Comments Due Nov 9
On September 8, the Dept of Health and Human Services released proposed regulations implementing Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. Section 1557 prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in any health program or activity receiving federal money or administered under the ACA.
Public comment is due November 9

Almost every health and wellness indicator shows troubling disparities by race. Disparities are often created and maintained inadvertently through public policies and practices. As advocates we have the opportunity to help advance equity but it is often hard to know how to do this work in a meaningful way.

Webinar: Organizing Communities to Create Health
Vast and ever-increasing sums of money are spent each year on health care, but not on what most people would like to see change to make their lives "healthier." The health care industry is locked into a model focused on our most passive states-viewing health as curing our diseases and preventing us from causing ourselves harm. To support us in actively creating health for ourselves and for our families, friends, and neighbours, the health industry needs to broaden its view and share its decision-making power with the people it serves.
This webinar is for community leaders and organizers who wish to connect to the health and public health sectors, and the resources they have to offer. It is also for health care, public health, and social change leaders interested in how to better understand the complex needs of the communities they serve and what role health has among other aims.
