A long-time Congregation Shir Libeynu member was musing on his experience within the community recently, describing it as "spiritual life raft." He had grown up in family that attended a Reform temple but eventually became more Orthodox as he matured. This was part of his background when he first joined our shul, and around that time he also came out and then developed a relationship with his non-Jewish partner. He says that throughout it all, the congregation has consistently offered him "somewhere to float" during whatever upheaval or periods of calm he goes through along the streams of his Jewish life.
Many of us have similar stories about how the Shir Libeynu community has sustained us. But as we celebrate our 20th year of meaningful and inclusive engagement, we feel the need to look ahead too. In that spirit, we invite all of you to be part of collectively envisioning that future. On November 29, after our Annual General Meeting, please join us in a dialogue launching the start of a planning process: "Creating our Future." At that time, we will all have an opportunity to speak about our vision for Shir Libeynu and how we may contribute to implementing and shaping it. Guiding us through will be Danny Nashman, a skilled professional who has worked with many other groups like ours on strategies for sustainable change
