Dear Readers:

A & M Publishing will debut MEG (an all-new version) and  SHARKMAN in mass market paperback sometime between the 20th and 30th under the new VIPER PRESS imprint. Call it a SHARK DOUBLE FEATURE, just in time for Halloween. For those of you looking for MEG MOVIE updates, director Eli Roth had much to say in a recent interview (see below). And I'm announcing a new contest involving MEG: NIGHTSTALKERS cover art!

Enjoy the update!

Steve Alten
MEG Director Eli Roth Speaks out:
Though I'm not a big fan of gore, I think Eli Roth was a great choice to be MEG's director.
WHEN WILL NIGHTSTALKERS DEBUT IN STORES?
Tor/Forge, the publisher who has published many of my books - including MEG: PRIMAL WATERS and MEG: HELL'S AQUARIUM has purchased MEG: NIGHTSTALKERS from Rebel Press and will publish the hardback next summer. They will also be publishing the VOSTOK paperback.
MEG: NIGHTSTALKERS cover art contest!
The amazing Erik Hollander will be creating this masterpiece, but we need ideas. The story involves the two sisters (Bela & Lissy) and the Liopluerodon. Do you want to see all 3 on the front cover? Or just the sisters? And what action scene? (attacking a boat, an Orca, etc.) Give us your input at [email protected] SUBJECT: NIGHTSTALKERS CONTEST and if we use your idea you'll be a character in MEG 6!
Living Tips - Gum Disease and How to Avoid it
Who wants to be bothered with flossing, right? But gum disease took Wilt Chamberlain's life (or was it the 20,000 women he bedded?

Joke of the Month
All drugs have two names, a trade name and generic name. Example, the trade name is Tylenol and its generic name is Acetaminophen.. Aleve is also called Naproxen. Amoxil is also called Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen. The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin. Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of 'cocktails', highballs' and just a good old-fashioned 'stiff drink'. Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO. Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2020, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Thanks to Rick Magers for this wisdom.

Recipe of the Month: Spooky Witches Fingers
This is a traditional Christmas cookie recipe that we have had in our family for years. All I did was change the shape to make them look like fingers for our annual Halloween party. The cookies make a great conversation piece. My guests loved them!"

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup whole almonds
1 (.75 ounce) tube red decorating gel.

Directions:
Combine the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat together with an electric mixer; gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt, continually beating; refrigerate 20 to 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.

Remove dough from refrigerator in small amounts. Scoop 1 heaping teaspoon at a time onto a piece of waxed paper. Use the waxed paper to roll the dough into a thin finger-shaped cookie. Press one almond into one end of each cookie to give the appearance of a long fingernail. Squeeze cookie near the tip and again near the center of each to give the impression of knuckles. You can also cut into the dough with a sharp knife at the same points to help give a more finger-like appearance. Arrange the shaped cookies on the baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven until the cookies are slightly golden in color, 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove the almond from the end of each cookie; squeeze a small amount of red decorating gel into the cavity; replace the almond to cause the gel to ooze out around the tip of the cookie.
