Social Media is Key to Get Your Message Across

On Wednesday, BHC-SK partners and staff attended an encouraging social media training hosted by The California Endowment in Fresno where they learned strategies to lift up their work.

We asked Josth Stenner, "What did you learn from the social media training?"

I learned that it's important to "like" our partners status [on Facebook] as a means of elevating issues. The more likes you get initially influences visibility of the post. And to us e different platforms to reach different audiences, and to include pictures because  captivating picture is worth more than a thousand words in social media.

BHC-SK will be hosting a Social Media Workshop at our All Partner meeting on Thursday, January 28 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the David Head Center in Lamont.

In the meantime... here is a Twitter Tip: Be a Follower - follow the accounts of organizations and influencers in your space. Monitor their accounts for information and inspiration. Re-tweet and/or favorite their content, especially if their message bolsters your work as well.

The Gay and Lesbian Center of Bakersfield celebrated their fourth anniversary earlier this month. Jan Hefner, the organization's Executive Director and BHC-SK partner, told KGET that they hope to expand continue to provide support to people that may not have it.

"Even though there have been a lot of strides in same sex marriage, there are still a lot of individuals who feel isolated. Sometimes they are rejected by their families and their own community," Hefner told KGET.

Jose Mireles and Roberto Sanchez, both members of Lamont Parent Partners, were interviewed by Radio Bilingue's Broadcasting Director in their Hora Mixteca. Mireles and Sanchez talked about their involvement with the sidewalk project in Lamont.
Save the Date: Dec. 15: Join Us for a Community Meeting to Discuss the Results of an Independent Study on Plan B
Plan B is the alternative plan for disposing Lamont's sewer water. Currently, Lamont Public Utilities District sends more than 1 million gallons of  sewer water a day to Recology, who purchased the composting facility from Community Recycling and Resource Recovery early this year. Recology uses the sewer water to irrigate compost.
